I am at the end of my swap of a 302/AOD into a former 360/C6 '71 F-100. I installed dual eaxhaust with Thrush Welded mufflers...I'm very satisfied with these!
Anyways, now I am moving on to more minor issues, like the trucks stance. I don't know how this looked in '71, but it just doesn't look right! The nose is sensibly low, and the rear is much higher. I'll try to get a pic up here in a moment. Does anyone know right off what is going on?
Thanks,
nathan
Not an unusual look at all, I believe the truck has additional leaf springs, known as overload or helper that is throwing it hight like that. ND Bill will have Fords proper name for you in a bit.
It should have been like that the first time you saw it, are you just noticing it now?
Well, no! I noticed it about 4 years ago when I bought it. I'm just now addressing it though. So far, everything I've seen on this truck indicates questionable workmanship, from the drip marks in the paint to the rocker arm shaft that bounced up and down...and also the wiring...and the engine to tranny bolts that were finger tight. So I would be more surprised if this was a factory look than not, because it seems that someone has gone through this whole truck and not done anything really right.
Anyways, I would appreciate any one's input. Should I raise the nose? Lower the rear? Or leave it alone like my bank account says to?
Well, yeah, it needs to be functional...to be able to haul stuff. The goal is a truck that could be a daily driver, can tow or haul a rick of wood or so, and has a little get up and go. I love wrenching on stuff and this is my toy.
Right now I'm leaning toward raising the front 3" from its current location (measured from the wheel centerline). I don't see any lift springs on the market for these? Does any one have any input here? I'm decent with engines etc but suspension mods are not my area of expertise.
Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going to get new stock front springs and shocks, and see where that is for the front. Then I may bring the rear down a little. Or I may follow advise and leave it!

Boss, I'd leave the front alone, if you think the rear is too high, lower it.
i think springs can and do wear out because the drivers side sagged on my 71 F250 sport custom wimbleton white and red with disc brakes, sliding rear window, and bedside toolbox that i miss very dearly that i sold a few years back.
