I'm mostly concerned about the painting driveshaft. Is this a bad idea??
Paint? I would say ok. The other products that have been mentioned? No.
Too much of a chance of being out of balance. Even a little bit. The money? Questionable. It is not like your ds is going to rust through. That you would have to replace it because of rust. And, if you did, would it offset the cost of the bearings, gears, and U-joints you will have to replace if the applied prodiuct is even a little heavy, on balance, on one side or the other.
Clean it up, apply some Rust-o-leum. If you clean it up with some warm water and soap, apply some Rust-mort to convert the ramaining rust, if any, to primer, and then apply some paint it will last a long time.

Great, thanks alot. I'm not concerned about it rusting through, just more concerned about the look.
I'm going to use some duplicolour bedliner for my radius arms and hitch point, and maby even my front and rear diff covers...Probly some other stuff I'll end up doing as well. And for the drive axle I will just use normal paint.
What's the best paint for this that I can pick up at the local store? Thanks.
I would use the Rustoleum Textured paint that i recommended before. just picked myself up some at wally world today and plan on going crazy with it on my truck here soon.
And i know some of you guys had to read my post about herculiner on the hootus. I'm surprised no one has commented on it yet. it had me tearing up i was laughing so hard.
On Edit: i forgot to metion the hootus thread has had over 1 milllion views.
The drive axle itself is not an issue, the driveshaft is a rotating mass, out of balance creates issues. Go ahead and rusto the whole front and rear axle and frame ect, just be sure to mask off any bolts and nuts you ever want to take apart. Cover all seals, dont paint over axle and diff cover, as these will need to be cut later when you change the diff oil. I have used rusto products on hitchs and other parts and the idea of the pre treatment is great. You will be more satisfied with this solution.
