I have an 05 F350 DW......... when comparing the mileage to the hours what should I look for since I bought this used 3 weeks ago with 79k for mileage......
Divide odometer miles by engine hours and that will tell you average speed for life. Higher is better and indicates all highway miles. For comparison, I recently bought and resold an '06 King Ranch that had 152k miles and 3300 hours, averages to 46mph and it ran and drove almost like new.
Avoid things like ambulances or emergency service trucks that spend a lot of hours idling while powering accessory equipment and keeping warm --- unless you have no choice.
In the real cold places, the engine is never shut down in winter until spring.
The last time I checked miles/hrs on my truck I was at 47.5 miles per engine hr. I do not idle unless I have been towing hard and I then I try to have a 5-10 min cool down. I have towed my 30ft 5-W about 65% of the miles that make up this calculation. (This truck is not a grocery getter)
