Fellas,
My dad just bought his 2011 F250 diesel. He has it about a month now. He is very unhappy with the way it rides. Says it feels "bouncy" and doesn't hold the road aswell as his previous 3/4 ton diesles (his had em all 7.3,6.0, & 6.4). Just curious, for those of you that have one of these trucks, have you experienced anything similar to this? Other than that, he is very pleased with the luxury, power, mpg, look, etc.... just when you hit a bump on the road, you better hang on because it wants to bounce all over. He did bring it back to the dealer, changed tires, rotated tires, let air out of tires, added air to the tires, inspected suspension, bushings....As far as the dealer can tell there are no problems. Has anyone else heard of this??
thanks any input is greatly appreciated
Mine rides very nice... I did think there may be a problem with the steering because it is so effortless to turn the wheel... But after driving it a few days so far, It feels normal.
Tell him to drive another one at the dealer to compare. The techs can call the Ford helpdesk to ask about it, which will also put out the alert for potential problems...
I've noticed my 250 rides stiffer than my '04. The '04 was 8800GVW and this one is 10,000GVW. I was going to upgrade to a 350 but am totally happy with this 250. Could your dad have a similar upgrade in GVW and that be the difference? Mine rides stiffer than the last one, but definitely still feels safe and in control. Both trucks were crew cab short box BTW. Had a '97 Supercab longbox before the '04 and it rode stiffer than the '04 and softer than the '11, but had a GVW of about 8500.
mikE(OTOH, I also drive lifted Jeeps, so, anything is better than that)
I had an 08 450 and just bought a 2011 450. It grosses out at 1500# lower than 08, and can tow 5k less, but rides a lot smoother. It is also a lot lighter than the 08 truck - almost 1k. Looks like undercarriage is really a 350, with smaller tires/wheels (no more 19.5's and tiny rear differential; that might change in Job 2's...
I am VERY happy to be rid of the 08 6.4 that had only 36k miles bud had been in the shop for 107 days out of the last 20 months.
Of all that I think the lighter truck weight unloaded is what gives your dad the feeling that teh truck wanders or that the wind blows it around. Also try checking to see if there is too much air (bounces around on dirt/rock roads or too little air (mushy) in his tires.
Something is wrong if when comparing to older models this newer truck feels like it handles worse. My 6.0 had more bounce than my 6.4, and my 6.4 feels a little bouncy at times. However, throw 500lbs in the bed and it rides like a dream.
Did the dealer prep the truck right before sale? Many vehicles are shipped with removable bump stop type devices attached to the vehicle suspension to limit spring travel while in transit so the vehicle doesn't bounce up and down risking damage. I used to work at a BMW dealership and pretty much everything came with these on them, and if not removed the car/truck will ride very rough.

Just a thought.
What do these stops look like? My truck has yellow stops that I noticed in the rear, but I am thinking this is not what you are talking about.
My observation isn't quite what you're all speaking of....but it was the only thing we've noticed as a step back for us. All my trucks have had limited slip, which supposedly made driving up our curved gravel driveway effortless. But this new truck with the new type of electronic replacement for limited slip, slips and shoots rocks everywhere. The dealer had no clue .....but suggested I just pop it into 4X4 ....which has done the trick....but I preferred not.
