Hi All....My truck recently starting making a whining noise that does not vary with rpms.
When you first turn the key to heat up the glow plugs it sounds like something spins up, which it always has. REcently, when I turn the key and hear that spinning noise, it sounds choppy and not smooth anymore. I suspect that may be the problem, since it sounds similiar to the noise I am hearing. Its almost like the noise you hear when you turn the key to heat up the glow plugs, that noise never goes away. Can anyone tell me what might be doing that?
Check under the truck at the DS framerail to verify if it's the fuel pump, or the PS engine compartment for the vacuum pump.
Another check you can do is to see if your heater/ac vents are working properly. If they're "frozen" it's almost always the vacuum pump under the hood--usually a broken or disconnect vacuum line not allowing the reservoir to "depressurize" and shut off the vacuum pump. The fuel pump will shut off after a several seconds.

I think thats it....My heater has been stuck on defrost for a while now, which I knew was from a vaccum leak... but maybe the vaccum leak got worse causing the pump to stay on. I will search some threads on how to fix this.

Thanks for your help!
You might check the heater control valve which is mounted inline of the heater hoses. It has a small gray plastic tube that hooks to it that is very easy to knock off but easy to put on. The vacuum pump is on the right fender liner. Very easy to see and very easy access.
