2002 Explorer 4.6 timing chain guides

2002 Explorer 4.6 timing chain guides
I might be a mechanic but I've never had the pleasure of working on the 4.6 much in depth. I picked up an 02 Eddie Bauer that runs fine and with good oil pressure but is making the timing chain racket up front. If I can get away with it is it possible on this motor to replace just the guides without messing with timing or needing special tools? Anyone out there that has done this job maybe could offer tips or advice on this motor.

I took my 06 Explorer in for what I thought was just an exhaust leak. They also had to replace the timing chain and guides and I never knew I had a problem with that also. It was covered under the ext warrantee though so it wasn't more money. I will check the receipt when I get home to make sure.
