I just purchased a scangague to measure my EOT and ECT. Oil cooler is new and egr cooler deleted. ECT stabilizes at about 190*F while driving. EOT is reading 127* F and cold startup on a 70*F day. I have to believe either the sensor is bad or my scan gauge is not reading properly. I used the codes to program EOT on the scangauge given on this site by I believe "68CJ".
1. Anyone successfully read EOT with a scan gague on a 04 truck
2. Is the sensor on top of the oil cooler the temp sensor...it has 2 wires coming from it? I thought this was the oil pressure sensor. I unplugged the connector last night and the temp on the scan gauge did not change. The EOT temp does go up as the truck warms up but always remains 30* or so above the ECT. I would think if I unplug the sensor it would default to either max or min of the sensor cabability.
Thank You! I think that is what I unplugged last night and nothing changed on the gauge. I wonder if there is a way to check the sensor reading the ohms at ambient temp. I will double check when I get home tonight. I think I may call scangauge as well to make sure the codes I am using are correct for an 04 truck.

Are you sure you have the right codes entered into the x-gauge? I have a stock 04 and no problems reading the EOT with ScanGauge.
I will double check tonight that I didn't fat finger a key, but that is the same code that I have written down. I did see on another forum that a member used the following, which is a bit different. The different digits are in red.
This is different then what is listed in the thread that william linked to. I put this code in last night and ambint temp for EOT and ECT both read 64*. Now I need to take it for a ride to see if it works as planned. Maybe this is the code specific to the 04 truck as many things changed in 05.

I think you're right. In 05 there was a change to a faster CAN, and there might have been minor PID command changes that went along with it. I've looked all over the net for specific PID coding and Ford has it locked down tight.

I read the EOT. I think there are 2 wires coming from it. Try to unplug the sensor and I experienced that it is in the max of the sensor capability.
