Water temp and EOT and ECT temp difference

Looking at another 6.0. It's an 2005 with 156k. When test driving it on the scan gauge water temp stayed around 160 and don't believe it ever went above 170 if it even made that. Bad t-stat? Or a more significant issue? The other issue I seen that concerned me, is cruising at 65 for 10 minutes plus to check deltas their was up to a 20 degree difference so I'm thinking plugged oil cooler and bad egr cooler. Temps were 190 eot and maybe 170 ECT. Wasn't sure if the water temp issue affected the results on this reading or not. Thanks for any help.

Definitely a stuck open tstat. EOT seems normal but can't be green lighted yet until tstat is replaced. If OC has never been touched then chances are it'll probably be partially plugged .

Coolant flush with restore & restore plus $150
Oil cooler $300
Dummies/standpipes $150
HPOP stc update $50
Intake gasket set $30

My oil cooler is completely plugged & my EOT takes about 15-20 minutes of highway speeds for delta to hit 20 & up. Best way to check for a plugged OC imo is to pull a load with the truck, if it's plugged that EOT will tell the tale.

Towing changes the workload that the temperature differential value was determined at. Change a variable and change the differential, so checking while towing is out of spec. Although if you have less then 15°F temp differential when towing, yeah your very good. But if you don't, you still may be good.

Fordboy2, you can't determine if you temp diff is good or bad with an improperly operating T/S.

Fix the thermostat first. Then let's establish a stable test track and conditions to measure your difference between EOT and ECT before you start replace lots of expensive parts.

If still just LOOKING, have them have the T-stat replaced and then retest drive it.

If I like the truck, I'm offering a price less a thermostat and oil cooler replacement. At worst you'll break even.

No I have not bought the truck yet. The difference in EOT and ECT has me a little scared. Not sure I can get the dealer to pay for the t-stat change just based off me telling him there is an issue. Maybe I will see if we can agree to a deal pending me changing if the t-stat to see if it corrects the problem first. I kinda figured it would be hard to get an accurate reading with the t-stat messed up. I'm just concerned if it's been that way a while was there any damage done to the heads or head gaskets. I pay cash for everything and don't want to spend the cash and then get nailed with a head gasket job before I get time to put the money back in the bank from buying the truck.

If a dealer won't change a bad thermostat to help sell a truck, he/she doesn't want your business.

I buy at wholesale and usually the vehicles are as is or the price gets adjusted as we fix stuff accordingly. I'll ask Kevin today about throwing a t-stat in it if I get time to get over there and talk to him.

Things I found wrong with it are, the t-stat issue, possibly the egr cooler/oil cooler depending what the t-stat change does for that. The power seat doesn't slide forward or back but all other functions seem to work. The rear seat is loose at the hinge in the middle on the bottom. The cruise doesn't work. The bed appears to be almost new and would be nice for my use. Other than those things it drives out good with good power and straight down the road. I'd probably delete the egr or upgrade the cooler anyway so as long as I had a little time to get to it that wouldn't be a huge issue if it needs the coolers done. Just have to figure it in on cost. I can get it for 8k.

Well I picked it up for the day yesterday, drives out decent. Here's what I've found, has vibration at 65-70, ball joints, front end parts all seem good. Egr was almost completely plugged with soot, cleaned that and it ran way better. Had a a little bit of coolant come out the cap on the over flow that concerns me. Took it off wiped it all up and ran it some more and even pulled my horse trailer with it and at that point had no more coolant coming out the cap. Thus concerns me a lot what's the opinion in this issue? RUN!? Truck has been tuned I'm assuming since it has a probe in the drivers exhaust manifold. Has s&b cold air and after market exhaust also. Truck appears to have no oil leaks anywhere. Does have new starter. Anyone else have any feed back on this. Thanks in advance.
