I know this subject has been beat to death in the past couple of months, but I still have questions. I have a 2003 F250 with the power elephant ear mirrors. Just purchased a set of power heated trailer tow mirrors from my Ford dealer. These are the new mirrors with the turn signal in them. How do I hook up the turn signal? I have yet to try and install them. I want to make sure I have everything first. What do I need besides the following:
Mid 1990's Explorer defroster switch
Defroster relay and wiring for relay and switch
I am assuming the mirrors should plug right into the stock harness in my truck.
Darn mirrors froze over the other night and I couldn't see a thing backing up. Out with the elephant ears.
I'm pretty tight with my dealer and the parts manager. Cost was $110.00 and $117.00. Don't know why one side was more than the other and neither does my dealer. I think these were the prices give or take a buck or two at the most. Thought it was a pretty good deal.
I jsut installed the electric heated pull out mirrors on my f350. It took about 3.5 hrs to remove my old electric pull outs and install, wire and cut hole in dash for switch. The work fine. The turn signal wire harness is not in door nor is the heated portion of the harness in the door. You must run your own wires. The turn signal wires are at the base of steering colomn and ask the dealer what the color of each is or take a wire probe tester and check each one with the signal on. Pretty easy.
Does anyone have the R&R procedure for the TT mirrors that they could share with me?
Due to an embarrassing confrontation with the telephone pole next to my driveway, I now have a damaged driver's side mirror. My Ford dealer is asking $180 for the mirror and $60 for labor. I would like to get a look at the Remove & Replace procedure to see if this is something that I can do myself.
I have a 2003 F-350 with the extendable Trailer-Tow mirrors. The large mirror is powered and heated. The small, wide-angle mirror is manual. It has the built-in turn indicator and running light.
The break-away mount is ok and so are the two horizontal bars that slide in and out. The mirror case is broken and the two mirrors broke out.
Looks like I should be able to find a better price on the mirror, too!
MNCamper,
By the sounds of the price ($180) of the mirror it is either a good price if it is the whole mirror. I got a quote from my local dealer on that exact mirror. it was $220 list if i recall correctly. It was $140 for the mirror and $80 for the cover that includes the lights. I may be off a couple of dollars. So based on that if they are replacing the entire mirror the price doesnt sound bad. I hear you have to take the door panel apart to get at the mounting bolts. If they are only replacing the part of the mirror that is broken it may not be such a good deal. Considering the labor rates that didnt sound bad either if they are taking the interior pieces apart. If you end up with a squeak that you didnt have before you can bring it back.
If you do end up doing it yourself would you mind taking a picture of the plug. I am interested to see what mods i will have to make to accomidate the mirror on the X. Thank you.
When I purchased my new mirrors the installation instructions were included in the package. It requires that you remove the door panel to access the plug. It is an easy install IMO. If you are adding mirrors that are heated and have turn signals to a truck that did not originally come equipped with those options, your installation is much more difficult. It is a matter of splicing into the right wires for power to those options. Easy if you know what you are doing, but near impossible if you don't.
i have the heated/signal TT mirrors on my new F250 (that is...when it finally arrives!?!). i would like to know if the plug/ wires are the same as older excursion/epedition models that have heated mirror & signals (the ones built into the glass).
i need my mirrors to be heated (for plowing) but would actually prefer the 6x9s instead of the lg. TT's.
if it is an easy swap and i get to keep heat & signals on the 6x9's...i might consider it w/ someone? i honestly can't recall which excursions/expeditions have the heat & signal mirrors?
