2nd crank sheave: crank+fan+alternator (I installed a two sheave alternator pulley realizing that 2nd crank sheave can only be used for it)
3rd crank sheave: crank+P/S
My hang-on AC has two sheaves (first from the engine lines up with 3rd crank sheave and second should line up with 4th crank sheave which does not exist) At this point everything is leading towards my crank needing to have 4 sheaves, since I doubt that P/S and AC can share one belt. Ford Parts Manual mentions D2TZ-6A312-A crank pulley for '72 w. hang on A/C. I cannot find any info on this D2TZ-6A312-A. Did people who added a hang-on AC system had to completely replace their crank pulley for a 4 sheave crank pulley? Or is there a single sheave attachment pulley that was supposed to be attached to the original crank pulley?
i had bought a factory unit from ebay and installed it. i had a similar problem i was faced with. what i ended up doing was go to vatozone and they punched in all my info and gave me one belt the perfect size to wrap around the a/c and power steering.
Seems like if I shared A/C pulley with P/S pulley, my P/S pulley would not have enough grab. But then again, what do I know.
BTW, where is your idler pulley located? Mine is just between the distributor cap and alternator on the passenger side.
Alright I finally figured this out...not sure if this is the right factory set up, but it works. I've gone through all the P.O. pulleys that came with the engine and found an additional "Mapco" pulley which adds onto crank pulley and acts as a 4th sheave. My current set up is: 1st sheave (crank, water, alternator), 2nd sheave (crank, water, alternator), 3rd sheave (crank, power steering), 4th sheave (crank, idler, ac). Not sure what the origin of the Mapco is, but it works.
