you check the wires going into the door from the kick panel? see if the wire has a break in it somewhere. the wire can look perfect on the outside but burnt on the inside and you wouldnt ever know unless you tested it. you sure theres power out on the switch going to the passenger side window? the contact in the switch might be broken. all stuff a simple test light can detect in seconds
I had a similar type problem - you press the up button and all you here is grind... grind... grind... and no movement.
Here's how I fixed mine...
The window motor in the door has 3 plastic ***** in the gear mechanism that act like bearings. After years of use they get ground into little plastic shreds... thus motor turns but gear doesn't...That's the easy part.
A replacement motor unit is very expensive - but.... Ford sells a replacement gear set for $35 that won't work for our truck (or at least on a 93 F250) - but....
It has the same size plastic bearings that I needed - so I purchased it, removed the bearings, and used them in my electric motor.
The motor and arm assembly in my PS door is one piece assembly and mounted to the door with shoulder rivets. I drilled the rivets out, and very carefully was able to remove the assembly thru the opening in the door. (no need to remove windows or other hardware) - It's a bitch but you'll figure it out.
Once I had the assembly on the bench, I dis-assembled the motor from the track, and removed the gear cover, pulled the gears out and cleaned out the plastic "shrapnel" and replaced the three plastic *****, greased and re-assembled the unit.
I have a rivet gun but I couldn't find any shoulder rivets - so I used some 1/4 - 20 nut-sert rivets and riveted them into the motor/arm assembly on the bench. Carefully placed it back in the door and on the tracks, and used some very short 1/4-20 bolts and washers to re-mount. don't use long bolts or they will stop the arms from moving.. You'll see..
It's been working ever since. And that's how I fixed my DS power windows for under $40
Picks included in my post (but the three plastic ***** are gone - but I know you can figure out where they go!) ... not saying this fix will work for you.... Please let me know how it worked out....
oreo, i know there is power leaving the switch on the drivers side door, but there is nothing at the pass side door... up and down both light up, so i know that switch is working... but am dead in the water on the pass side...
93, i dont get the grind or anything... there is no attempt of movement of the pass glass...
couldnt you just hook power up directly to the positive and the negative on the motor to roll up the indow for now, It could also tell you if the motor itself is bad or not. Thats what I think at least.
Take off the inside trim and hit the motor with something like a hammer. I had to do that a time or two. Ended up R&R the motor. Another thing you might try is to try lifting the glass from inside the door.
I actually tore down my electric window gear motor a while ago. Right down to the gears, rotor and brushes. I found there is an automatic bimetal switch in there that I would guess is designed to open in case of an over current situation like a jambed window. Other then that, you could just have a broken wire in there somewhere. The motor itself is actually quite massive for what it does and I would doubt it would fail from one day to the next like this.
If I were next door I'd have yours torn apart in 5 minutes, I might even try to fix it for you
In the mean time, just wrap the door in some plastic from the outside and close it gently to jamb it into the door gasket. That should keep most critters and rain out until tomorrow or when ever you have time to deal with the problem.
My dads 87 passenger side will not move with the switch but rolls up and down fine with the switch on the drivers side. The lock was messed up for a while but I got it working.
I'm not sure how the windows and locks are wired between the doors! Why there's no power on the passenger door but fine from the drivers side. Dad lives 250 miles away so not a lot of chances to work on the truck.
My passenger side window still works, but horribly. My driver's side window is stuck up. Do you have power before the switch and not on the switch? If so, the switch is bad if you don't have power after the switch.

Haven't checked yet. It's usually just me in the truck so didn't find the problem until my wife just happened to be in the truck, put the window down and couldn't get it back up from the pass. side.
On my 85 I had the same problem, and it was the switch on the drivers door, but I don't remember if it was the switch for the drivers side or passanger. If I remember right the power runs through the drivers side switch to the passanger side switch. MIght be a place to check.
