I need to locate an accelerator cable for my 1980 F100 with a 300 ci engine, 1 bbl carburetor. The engine is not original to the truck (remanufactured/used). I can't get one from the U-pick salvage yards and my attempts to locate the cable from various parts suppliers results in the cable I get in the box does not match the online or parts counter catalogue picture that looks like mine. The cable is manufactured by Dorman (the other supplier is ATP). After looking at their web site I found one that looks like my old, broken one but it is only 23 inches long and mine is 31.25 inches long (yes, size does matter). Has anyone come across one of these? Also, do I really need the tab for the throttle return spring? If I don't this would help and maybe I can modify the wrong I got from Rock Auto. Any advice is welcome.

Thanks Number Dummy. I'm assuming that EOTZ9A758A Accelerator Cable-29" long / Obsolete is what I need and the Ford dealers you listed have these?
I'm guessing that while the engine is newer maybe the cable is original. I'll call these people and get their email addresses so I can send them the picture. I'm hopeful that a parts guy will actually do a visual check of the actual part. I do note that my cable is longer but I'll check to see if there's slack in it.

GREEN SALES CO. is an obsolete parts vendor, has the world's largest stock of Ford obsolete parts: greensalescompany.com. Green Sales will make the effort, but...
I doubt the dealers will lift a finger to help you. Most likely, they'll ignore you and your picture.
They may not have other cables to compare. Most partsguy's in today's world don't give a scheiss about older vehicles. Most know absolutely nothing about them.
That's a possibility. I can make a bracket and it's an option I've thought of. I'm not a mechanic/hotrodder but have some fabrication skills/tools. Coincidentally, my son suggested Lokar just the other day. Right now I'm wondering if the tab for a throttle return spring is even necessary. The spring runs from the tab on the cable near the ball hookup to the carb to a tab off of the blower motor shroud on the firewall.
I'm checking all available options to fix this so, I appreciate your advice.
