I have about an inch and a half of play in my accelerator pedal before it starts to pull on the cable. Does yours work like this (see truck in my signature)?
Also, I feel the throttle body is not fully opening because of how the cable connects to the top of the throttle body, I could see how the plastic connector getting in the way a little, seems to fit fine and work fine otherwise.
Could there be more than one throttle cable part number for these year trucks? What is a known good part number I can use to verify with mine?
No, neither one of my OBS trucks had/have play in the accelerator. Unless you pull it up towards you... perhaps yours is being pushed upwards? The weight of the pedal is supposed to pivot it towards the floorboards until the cable comes under tension.
Having too much slack in the cable is pretty common. It doesn't mean you have the wrong part number, it's just sloppy manufacturing and/or a worn-out/stretched cable. I've heard of cables having slack in them even when the truck was brand new. A common fix is to just take a bunch of zip-ties and tie them around the end of the cable to take up the slack.
