I don't know that I can really call myself a Ford "enthusiast." I am starting to regret my purchase of this '02 Expedition, EB. Please help me!
Here is what has happened: About 2000 miles after purchase the service engine light came on and had a P0171 code; brought it back to dealer-they took 2 1/2 days to tell me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Reset light. A couple hundred miles later it came back on. SEL starts flashing-had new plugs and boots put on. SEL back on-PCV hose wasn't attached. SEL back on again-this time I was told codes were P0125, P0171, AND P0175. Told I need a MAF sensor and thermostat. Okay, did that. And guess what! Yep, the light's back on again.
Seriously, I am ready to cry. I really can't afford to keep dumping money into this thing. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
By the way...only getting 12-14 MPG. Is that normal?
12-14MPG isn't all that bad for the weight of the vehicle and the 2V engine. As for the codes, don't go to that shop anymore, obviously they do not know what they are doing. My suggestion would be to go to a different mechanic, and put in a complaint with Ford Corporate about the issue with the mechanics at that dealer. I don't really understand how a hose just disconnects itself, sounds like they either forgot to put it back on or did so incorrectly. Mention that and the fact that the same code keeps popping back up and the dealer is not fixing the problem correctly.
I went to a mechanic with my parents Expy, the one in my sig, for the first year of my driving, and the same problem kept occurring over and over again. The mechanic kept telling my dad the DPFE went bad in the EGR system. We went though 3 DPFEs before I finally told the mechanic he didn't know what he was doing, and that he should try replacing the hoses. What do you know, the hose was clogged, nothing wrong with any of the DPFEs he replaced. That was a $300 job each time he did it, I managed to get a few free oil changes out of him for it, along with other small stuff.
I've actually been to a different Ford dealer and another shop since the original dealership I bought it from is about 50 miles away. Apparently no one around here knows what they're doing. Or they just like to make stuff up because I'm a girl. Obviously I need to find a good mechanic.
I am in the Minneapolis area myself so I know a few shops or would be willing to take a look at it for you. What dealers have you used (you can tell me in a pm if you wish). Again it can be hard to say without seeing the vehicle.
I have no problem saying on here that I bought it from Dave Holt Ford in Hudson and have also taken it to Elk River Ford and Elk River Tire & Auto. What shops would you recommend? Somewhere that has competent employees?
If you are in the Elk River area I would call HiTechMotorsport. They are on US 10. They primarily do high performance, but they do auto repair as well. They are about the only ones I will let work on my vehicles if I do not have the time to do it myself. Otherwise I have heard good things about Service Garage of Blaine.
