I have a weird fuel gauge. Sometimes when I fill up the gauge goes all the way to the F. And other times it only goes to the 3/4 mark. I always fill up when it gets to the E and I can only fit 19.5-20.5 gallons in it.
So I guess I have 2 questions. What's up with the gauge?, and how many gallons of fuel should my tank hold? (Short bed)
I've heard that adding Techron fuel additive can clear up fuel guage problems. My tank holds about 34 gallons if I run it down real low. I've also heard the "in tank mods" (Hutch and Harpoon) allow for more fuel in the tank.
Mine does the same as billcollector's truck. I took it into Ford while under warranty. They couldn't find out why it did that because it didn't do it for them? I bet now if I took it back since the warrany is out, they would pin point the cause because I will be paying the bill. Otherwise, I am very happy with my rig (2002 F350 AIS with Sleeve/Pillar Gauges/ MBRP. The post by bc2sv is interesting. I wonder if anyone has tried that?
The service manager gal at the local dealership is the one that told me about the Techron. If I remember correctly she got it from a service bulliten from Ford, since they were having a lot of fuel guage related problems. I have used it and haven't had the problem, but maybe I'm just lucky.

Where can you get the "Techron" I know Texaco puts it in gasoline. Is it available at parts houses
I'll be the first to say the Chevron with Techron is a great product. My concern or question is, is it safe to add to diesel fuel and will it harm the injectors? How much fuel should be in the tank when adding both bottles?
I just pour in a bottle every once in a while when I think of it and I'm filling at a Chevron, doesn't seem to do anything as far as damage to the fuel and so far haven't had any fuel guage problems. They have it in the convience store where I buy fuel. FWIW my friend, who's a Porche fanatic, uses it as well, sez his forum recommends it too. 'course it's not a diesel.
My main concern is injector damage using the Chevron product. As you know injectors are not cheap to replace on the PSD's. Not saying it could or would happen, just never heard of using the Chevron in our PSD's.
The techron additive is listed somewhere on a ford bulletin as recommended to clean fuel sending units.. Take that for what its worth. I used it to fix a fuel guage issue and it worked and that was 8 months ago... Havent used it since...
