OK here is my delimna. Running empty at 1500 rpm my egt's are around 600 degrees. When I crack down on it to pass they climb quickly to 1200. I have an Edge Evolution on the truck as well as a 4 inch exhuast with a muffler delete pipe and an Airaid cold air intake. I have replaced the intercooler boots and the turbo doesn't have any side to side or in and out movement it feels great. Before I installed the gauges (before the Evolution) at times the check engine light would come on briefly when pulling my 22,000 lb trailer up a steep grade. This happened probably 20 times more or less. When the light came on I would let out of it immediatly. I have checked the exhaust up pipes for leaks and there isn't any. I have been told that it may be the exhuast valves or possibly the pistons. I wouldn't think it was the pistons as I believe that there would be a lot of extra oil going through the turbo and the truck would realy smoke as it doesn't.I am at my wits end trying to figure out what is the problem.Any help would be great.
You say that before the edge that the light would come on. A stock truck the light should not come on. A few question's when pulling the trailer is there turbo surge or not. Also there must be some kind of other programing on the truck some where. Did you buy the truck new or used? On the driver side valve cover toward the front there is a oil pressure control, look and see if there is anything hooked up there that looks like a box or something in between the wiring harness. I'am just tring to make sure your not staking programers or chips, also look on the ECU for chip's. Your high EGT'S sound like more fueling than air flow. Also that 22.000 pound trailer needs a F450. Others will chime in.

What was your boost numbers at when you were climbing the grade?
What happens when you turn off the O/D? your rpms should go up, your temp should drop?
i have a edge programmeer on my 02 and the egt,s on it are way off sometimes initial startup will show 1600 and u kno thats not right i put in a autometer pillar and it never shows over 1200 no matter what so i would get ya a good gauge first
The engine is the 7.3 turbo diesel and there isn't any codes being thrown since I installed the evolution as I have it set at 1100 degrees. The turbo isn't spooling like it usedto. The problem existed before the addition of the evolution. I installed the programmer to help moniter the boost and egt's, trans. temps. aswell as to tell if any codes are being thrown. I purchased the truck used 5 years ago and it didn't have any upgrades on it. I installed a secondary gauge on it and the temps were the same. I always turn the OD off when towing. I just in the last 2 weeks installed a ATS trans. and a Banks torque convertor since the trans started slipping at 178,000 miles. I'm lucky to get 15 psi boost at full thottle with the programmer turned all the way up.
Have you checked for any intake leaks?
Have you tried running the truck without the chip and see if that clears things up? I know it sucks because you won't have the HP but it's a troubleshooting process.

This tells me you either have a boost leak, an exhaust drive pressure leak, or the wastegate is opening way too soon.
