I have a 1996 f350 I believe that I have a 8-6.5 my friend gave me some rims that came off a 2002 f350 which I believe to be 8-170mm is there anyway to convert these rims to fit my truck? I really need your help.
the bearing load changes are no greater than a dished out rim though, so how bad is it really? are people with deep rims roasting bearings? i ask because i plan on getting some wider rims with less backset to fill in the fender flares, and i dont think 2 or 3" will kill the bearings, but i havent tried yet so.......?
Adapters can change where the load is on the wheel bearings and cause a failure.
I would take that with a grain of salt, I have adapters on my truck as mine has been converted and with 250k on the truck I changed my first wheel seal last summer, I looked at the wheel bearings and they are mint and threw them back into service. I've grossly overloaded my truck a few time (4000lbs lime stone) in my truck and hauled it down the highway with no issues and hauled some big loads on my trailer overweighted in the last 100k that I've owned my truck and before me it hauled a 5th wheel by the orignal owner.
