I don't have any advice as far as dealer, but my Aunt has the mercury version of the escape, and really likes it a lot. The edge seems to be pretty over-priced from what I have seen. Good luck with the shopping.
Sorry, I didn't see the post up before that one. I am getting them through my mechanic here in middletown. A lot of recommendations for CT tire up this way in Berlin though.
tim- they are going to need to do a VIN verification on the truck at DMV because it was reg'd out of state, so you will need temps. i would just insure it and run it with no plate. definitely do not use a different plate, thats a big deal. if you get caught with no plate its just driving an unregistered vehicle, and as long as its insured they probably arent going to stop you from driving, just give you a ticket for $78. try what greg suggested, and you may be able to get your temps. or if the dealer wont give you an unofficial bill of sale, i bet you could make on yourself.
thanks alot for the help guys, just a note, ill be buying it from a private owner not a dealer, and when i was looking on ct dmv website it said even to get temp plates you need a bill of sale and title i think, which i have doubts about him just mailing them to me haha, but running with no plates/reg, could they tow and impound the truck for that? that would be awful some 500 miles away from home haha, i thought at least if i ran some old plates i might stand a shot, but then again this truck dosnt really blend in anyway so who knows, and no, i do not posess any document forging capabilities, but your welcome to help zookie
Tim...I believe that most states will impound and tow...after all you'd be running unregistered and uninsured. Some states will also arrest...or at the very least...issue a criminal summons.
Again, the Bill of Sale can be a napkin with your signature, the sellers signature, and the selling price. The DMV website gives the specifics beyond that, but I would just make one up and then have a friend sign the sellers signature. That will get you the temp plates you need, then just make sure you have insurance and you should be all set.
...or you could try to find someone with dealer or transport plates.
I went to CT DMV with all the papers and got permanent registration plates after I bought and paid for my van (sight - unseen) from a dealership in Massachusetts.
The dealership drove my van to Pennsylvania for the 4x4 conversion.
I took a bus to Pennsylvania, picked my van up and drove it home.
We are looking to get a new Edge or Escape for the wife. Anyone have any dealer recommendations within an hour of Faifield? Thanks!
Hoffman Ford in East Hartford. Ask for Billy Generaux, he is the sales mgr. He will send you to a salesman (I deal with Dean K.) to take care of you. Tell him I sent you, and to give me back my orbital buffer!
