hmmm I may need to drain some out then...expecially if its only 10-12q
against my better judgement I had an oil change done by my mechanic. I think he put in way way too much oil. No running problems but its reading REALLY high on the dipstick. Strange thing is it doesnt smell like coolant or diesel hmmm
Wondering aloud here... how and why would an engine over-full on oil smell like coolant?
Overfull is bad.. most dont understand just how bad, but in a nutshell it takes away the splash oiling of the crank throws for one, and ive heard more than once it will cause broken piston skirts. You will notice 90% of dipsticks will say "do not overfill" yet dont ever see one that says "do not underfill" lol
Oil capacity with a stock filter is 10 qts. If you choose to use the larger, powerstroke filter(FL1995), it will take 11 qts. I use the FL1995 filter, 2
5 qt jugs of Motorcraft 15w40 and a qt of Lucas Oil Stabalizer per oil change mainly because it's all affordable and all available at one place, Wallyworldmart.
To check bring engine up to operating tempature (go for a ride) then shut it down for 3-5 minutes and check. As long as it's in the hash mark don't add. At the bottom hash it's 2 qts to refill.
Yep, 10 qt's with the new filter.
Thats what "Mitchell' say's also.
