Empty plug on engine?

I was working on my 1988 Ford van W/5.8L V8 today. I found I had to replace the air pump check valve on the back of the engine and will have to replace the cross-over tube it connects to as well. 22 years does take it's toll.
The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner at 80,000 miles, I bought it at 105,000, and it now has 115,000!

While doing this repair I found a plug on the wiring harness that connects to "nothing"! It coumes out of the harness on top of the manifold in the back of the engine between the valve covers. It looks to me like it should connect to some kind of sensor? I can't find anything close enough to the plug that it could connect to.

The wires coming out of it are "black w/white stripe & green w/black stripe". I don't have a wiring diagram for this vehicle but I may go to the local library tomorrow to see if I can find out any info, but if anyone reading this can help I would appriciate it!

The engine runs fine so I'm not sure what this could be for?

Might go to the transmission. If one (green/black) has constant power it was probably for a manual transmission switch for the backup lights.
