mystery wires ??

i have found 3 wires on my truck and i have no idea where they go to. they are coming from behind the engine by, the i guess egr in same wiring harness then over the fender well to the solenoid area. there is a plug connection there and as it comes out of the connection they are cut, and i have no idea what they go to. there is a green with purple stripe, gray with yellow stripe and a black, the gray with yellow has voltage on it, almost 14 volts when the engine is running.

any one know what these wires go to. i have looked high and low and i can find nothing that is missing a few wires. but i know something is missing or they wouldn't be there.

These wires go to the "Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor (HEGO)".

Black is ground.
Gray with Yellow stripe is power.
Dark Green with a purple stripe goes to pin #29 of the EEC Computer.

If I'm not mistaken the HEGO is also the O2 sensor....your truck doesn't show a check engine light does it?And it doesn't run like crap either right? It should have a spot on the passenger side exhaust pipe as it comes into the wye (2 into 1 pipes) or there should be at the very least a bung...If there isn't.....you could either put an O2 sensor in or not.....it's up to you....

Yes it is the O2 sensor and it should be screwed into the exhaust header pipe on the passenger side.

"This sensor measures the oxygen content in the exhaust gas. This sensor is for feedback, it tells the computer when the air to fuel ratio is above or below 14.7:1. Sometimes the computer is attempting this mixture and sometimes it ignores the HEGO. For more, please seek further reading on the web or in books."

I'd fix it, if it didn't need it they wouldn't have put it there, well not always true but in this case......

If it works you may never notice any difference, but the computer should.

You may need to replace that 02 sensor if it has been in the exhaust stream for a long time with no power to it. May be all carboned up and unable to do its job, may be able to just clean it up.

You can test it if you want with a multimeter so you know for sure.
