I installed my nice *NOT BENT UP* front bumper this morning. It's straight as can be and looks so much better than the old one. I really have no idea why the old one was so beat up...wasn't my doing, I know that much. lol
And I snagged an aluminum valve cover off an older 4.0L Cherokee...but I'm having to address the PCV valves, since the cover I just got uses a different type than my current '96 metal one. If I can't find PCV valves to fit, I'm going to have to come up with something, since the metal one is warped and leaks badly.
I'm headed out to a junkyard I haven't been to in awhile tomorrow, hopefully they have some good trucks I can get parts off of.It'd be nice if I could find some 80-81 Rangers, even better if they're Ranger Lariats with intact interior.I got a nice sized shopping list,we'll see what I can find.Might get pics if it's worth it.
No wait...DUDE, ARE YOU THE NEW BARNEY?! I knew that voice sounded familiar!!! lolol
I finally found out where the horns are at on my Cherokee!!! They're way down below the turn signals next to the inside of the left and right front fenders. One of them is either dead or its wire is damaged. Right now only the high-tone one works, and it sounds like a clown car....
Oh and ya'll know those 80s tailgates with the big red reflector across the center? Well I found one with an intact reflector strip at the junkyard!!! It's gonna run me $15 and I'll have to remount the right half of the reflector strip back to the tailgate, but it's something to work with. It's pretty straight, but before I can get it off I'll have to bend the edge of the bed back down since it's bent up where the tailgate can't open all the way.
And I just have to dig through the bed to find the O. I have the F, R and D already hidden from sight so no one gets any ideas. lol
A nickel? That reminds me f a saying I really like: If I had a nickel for everytime I said that I'd have 37 cents.
Let me guess....a Downhill ski instructor?
Well I thought I was done selling vehicles for awhile, but I guess not, Trailered a 68 Mercury Monterey, 85 Mustang Convertible, and 63 Studebaker wagon with the rollback roof all to my house from peoples houses for me to tweak a little, clean up and put up for sale. For a week there I was starting to get scared, there were no vehicles in the driveway. An empty driveway is scary.
And tomorrow I have to help a friend put his Chevy back together and the 350, I'm going to bring over my Shotgun with slugs and a 20 pound sledge hammer, that should do the trick
This will be my last post for a few days. I am moving this weekend, and won't be back online till at least monday, when the internet is sposed to be hooked up at the new place.
I will certainly be glad to get the heck out of this place. Been nothing but bad memories.
So I'm heading to the scrap yard this morning with my load that's almost tucking the rear tires when I realize scrap is now 11.00!!!! As I wait in the 1/2 mile line to the scale I get 7 trucks from the scale when mine dies out. I had trouble earlier this week thinking it was a selector valve or fuel pump, I by passed the selector and installed a electric pump then. Today no fuel, pump running, filter clean, 1/2 tank. I pulled the top off the carburetor and couldn't figure it out, the float was down and still no fuel (there was some in the filter). I was messing with the fuel pump when fuel started spraying into the bowl, turns out a metal fuel line was bent in the wrong way and some debris plugged it up. Got lucky and I was able to get it running again, got a cut in the line and there I was on the scale @7060 all said and done almost 2400lbs in scrap and about 4680ish empty. $262 was today's prize with 23.50 to top off my tank. I would have had more but I was getting my butt kicked trying to slide junk nissan engines out the back and this big mexican guy helped me unload so I let him take my 2 cast aluminum nissan blocks (the line for precious metals was long so I felt it was worth it).
So now I'm cleaning up to go to the movies, tomorrow spend some of my prize money on a selector valve and sending units at the junkyard maybe I'll get lucky and find some 93-96 alloys that I desperately want.
Well,I got back from my junkyard run today.I went out to one of the yards I hadn't been too in awhile, and i've never felt so sorry for anyone in my life. The junkyard was sold last month, and the new owner has been taking care of it and trying to clean it up since the last owner trashed it.Well, the new owner was nice as can be and you can tell he's trying his hardest to clean it up.But,he told me business hasn't been what he thought it was,and he's hoping more people will start to come.I've honestly never felt so bad for anyone in my life.I went into the yard, and he only had about six or seven 80-96 Ford Trucks. One was a Ranger, which I still had one Ranger emblem that I got for my truck. This truck also had a weird radio bezel,it had the Rosewood grain on it.It might have been a Radio Delete Ranger Bezel, because the radio was in the center, and there was no ranger emblem above. It was probably in the center, but a P.O. probably cut it out for the Radio. If anybody wants it,PM me and I'll get it when I go back next week for more stuff.
And then,I talked to a buddy of mine who went out to another junkyard, and he said that junkyard didn't have any Ford trucks older than 97.
I then went to my favorite junkyard, and that lady said she didn't have any Ford trucks newer than 96.lol.
I got one more yard I want to try next week, but if they don't have any of our trucks,i'm screwed, because my favorite junkyard doesn't have any more interesting parts.
I went to my favorite yard today, too; it's 40-some acres, a family-owned business that's been
here in Colorado for at least 35 years and they don't charge admission. Colorado Auto - Used Car and Truck Parts - If you're interested
About the most interesting thing I got was what looks like an aftermarket replacement
headlight switch, I only got it cuz it looks to be fairly new (tho it's prolly made in China).
Got some chrome trim for the halibut and will go back next weekend (weather permitting)
with tools to get an electrical switch for the daily driver.
But the real reason I'm posting here is cuz I was kinda struck by Shaun's feeling of no
more interesting parts... The yard I go to is pretty consistently replacing inventory, they
buy vehicles by the dozen or gross (or more) at the scrap auctions - the auctions where
vehicles end up when they're pretty much useless for anything else but scrap. Most
vehicles will only stay around for around 45 days before they're shredded, although they
have a selection of 1950s, 60s & 70s vehicles as well as some specialty cars such as
Corvettes that they keep around for seemingly forever. The Cash For Clunkers cars are
another exception but they're almost all gone, only about 100 of 'em left.
The point is, ask your yards for how long they keep inventory before it's replaced.
The point is, ask your yards for how long they keep inventory before it's replaced.
This is exactly why i'm going back to the other Junkyard,to see how long he's gonna keep em out if he stays open, and see if he can leave the Ford Trucks out longer. My selection has really grown slim, and I'm counting on the junkyard I haven't been to yet to produce some trucks for me,but if not,i'm gonna have to outsource. It's definitely sad.
I still have stuff in boxes from when I moved. Almost three years ago. LOL
I surprised myself today, I got out on the highway and did like 65 in my truck this evening. The speed limit was 70 so I wasn't speeding. I was doing about 2700RPM and boy were the stripes on the road going by fast....lol
And all this time I thought I'd never be able to make 70 in my truck. Shoot, once I get the front end fixed, I think I can do it just fine.
LOL. I never unpacked at the last place. Didn't intend to stay long, and was only there 6 months. Heck, I didn't even take a lot of stuff down there, left most of it in storage.
I plan to stay here for a while, so I'll get most of the stuff unpacked, and bring the rest from storage. No need to pay the extra money for storing stuff now that I have a house I like.
