did you remove the crosstube on the back of the motor. I dont really want to remove everything if i dont have to. thanks for the reply
I cut the ends off the tube, reversed them and bolted them back on.
I have had no issues at all. My local parts store had the right belt in stock. We just measured the old one minus what I had cut out to measure. Get a belt a little longer than you think you need, the one I used could be a bit of a bear to put on with the shroud on.
thanks. i went to go get a new pump but it was $90. So I just picked up a shorter belt, its 87.5". I have never done this before so what else can be removed. I will remove the crosstube. the canister on the wheel well. What about the TAB solenoid and the octupus of colored hoses. do i remove those? what did you use to cap off the places that the colored hoses plugged into? or could i just cap off the hose that went on the pump and not worry about doing anything else?
i ran a shorter belt when i dumped all my emissions crap. first thing i did was trash the exhaust including the cats an ran true duals with 2.25 pipe an a cross over.....made a big differance down low. bumped the timing and plugged off all the solinoid crap mileage went from 15mpg on the highway to 18-19. with 2 19 gallon tanks 700 miles....heck ya.
I just bought some plastic caps from the auto supply, they come in packs af diferrent sizes and colours.
Do a search on here as to what to remove an disconnect, there was mention of a thread earlier in this thread.

You really picked that many mpgs from ditching the converters and pollution stuff?

makes me wonder if the "benefit" of all the smog crap is actually a good thing, seeing as how you have to burn more fuel to begin with to go the same distance
yeah i really did. around town didnt change at all. i did it aswell as a complete tune up so how much the smog pump and cats did with the tune up i cant tell you because i did it all at once. the smog pump was making noise is why i decided to do all that.
