Kill Switch wiring - anyone have a good wire?

I'm looking for a low-current wire to splice in a switch to throw to the 'off' position to not allow the truck's ignition to work (even if it does turn over).

Without me spending time and getting greasy, does anyone have an appropriate place and color of the wire I might want to use?

Much thanks.

I spliced in to the fuel pump power wire behind the P. side kick panel but I do not remember the wire color off the top of my head. I just put a simple toggle on it, also comes in handy when I replace the fuel filter. I wouldn't be surprised if the wire changed in '99 from my '97.

shutting off power to the fuel pump is probably the best solution.

Sounds like a plausible idea.

Could the truck start -at all- with the fuel present near the injectors (even if for only a little bit) if the fuel pump is shut off?

I kinda like an ignition kill, as when I do oil changes I like to spin the motor for a little bit before starting it to get it to fill the oil filter up for that much less of a dry start.

When you shut off the fuel pump the engine can catch and just almost run then it quits. There isn't enough time to even put it in gear and move anywhere before it dies.

I do, but not a full filter because that makes a mess. I put about half in. Still like it for that very reason, and for when the truck has sat a long time (when I go out of town) for an oil spin-up before starting it.

One easy way would be to put the switch in the start relay coil(control) circuit. You could break either the power OR ground side. This is the low current side of the relay so a small gauge wire(16 or 18) would work. That way the engine would NOT even crank let alone start. You would turn the key and get nothing with the switch in the open position.

In the crank position sensor lead.
Nothig works but cranking when this lead is open.
Not ignition, not fuel pump at cranking, not fuel injection, nothing!
Everything starts at the crank sensor.
The PCM has no reference for anything, without the CPS signal..

Bluegrass - you da man!

I like it. It should be low amperage also, so I think it will work.
