Here's the most popular one, from SPD Performance. Also, sometimes referred to as the "ebay y-pipe"

Just put new Hedman Headers on this week. Came with the y- pipe. Had to buy gasket between them and stock pipe to cat at dealer and they diidn't have it. Could get it in a day but was told the stock pipe is no longer made. Kept my old pipe and manifolds in case someone needed one. The Hedmans fit better than stock. Summit has them for $599. Fit up tight and extra bracket to hold it in place the stock didnt have.

Me too! I think they would be a hot seller.

I had wanted to do mine for a long time but didn't want to fool with welding it. Since I was installing headers (due to repairing broken manifold studs) I went ahead and cut & welded the SPD pipe. It was worth the effort.

ya i will be doing the spd y this week to. i think ford and ebay headers and y pipes are in cahoots. once you break you ex manifold studs you get new headers(probably stainless ebay ones) then you say to your self why am i doinh headers if this stupid y pipe is going to be massivily restrictive so you buy the spd y pipe(again ebay). everyone see what im seeing?

Jason(1975StroppeBaja) has a really great website of tech articles. The link in his sig for tech articles has a really great writeup with lots of pics of his install. Here's one of the pics from his writeup:

Looks pretty thick to me!

I dont think the Hedmans are considered long tube. They are shorties but come with the down pipes which forms into the y pipe then bolts right up to the stock exhaust pipe in front of the cat. The down pipes and y are same pipe and o2 sensor is near the collectors, not in one of the shorty pipes so you get a tru reading of all the cylinders. No welding, just bolts.

Thanks Tom!

The stock y-pipe is definitely thick enough for welding to, unless the rust is really bad.

The part of the pipe in that particular pic that Tom posted is double thickness, you can see the two pipes in the lower part of that pic. Still plenty thick though!

The way the SPD pipe is made, it slips over the existing pipe and then you weld it.

I dont think the Hedman down pipe and y will fit the stock manifold. Maybe same size but probaly larger and not as close to block as manifold. In fact I know it wont as the stock manifold ends higher up and tight to the block where the Hedman is out a little fromm the block and the output is longer and lower.
