y-pipe / CC

Yes I have taken the Y pipe off. I installed the banks powerpack which provided a new Y pipe and used exhisting cat. It was really easy to remove to Y pipe. Just need to put a leverage extention on a ratchet because the conical flage is very rusted. I soaked them with PB for a day first. The 3 bolt flange came off easily.

Yes you can, in fact if you want to you can run open headers, I especially like all the wild wicked sounds you can make rapping the motor up to 5000 rpm in the middle of the night.
Don't worry about the laws that caused Ford to put the Cat there in the first place, and never mind the ones about noise abatement that require mufflers. Hell none of that applies to you. You just paid about $10,000 more for the vehicle because the designers had to figure out how to get that big beast moveing while providing a LEGAL amount of emmissions and niose polution.
And trust me folks this comes from a old phart who spent years beliving that LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES! Well I woke up one day and found out that MOST of the public is a bunch of law abiding citizens that did not appreciate my loud *** motorcycle.
They are many and they are right. They also managed to get MANY noise abatement laws passed. And every day that we run off raod and trash the land, pollute the air with smoking exhaust and loud pipes they get more ammo to make more laws.
BTW tldavis welcome the FTE the best place to get all kinds of facts and opinions. In a few minutes several of the other regulars here will flame my crotchety old *** and tell me to mind my own business that there are really ways you can modify your exhaust system and it is your right to make it the way you want.
Just because you can don't mean it is right or that you should. Someday the MAN will start enforcing all the laws that say you may NOT modify your exhaust.
Also you should know that on a dyno the Ford superduty cat on a 2001 V10 made absolutly no difference with it on or off and 3" pipe in it's place. I was there.
You should also know that everybody here who took there cat out said that the cabin noise was LOUD.

I had my Y pipe cut off downstream from the CC about 2-4 inches and custom fabricated a better flowing pipe, the results are awesome I think, 1-2 miles per gallon better, better mid-range torque, did I forget to mention
that 1-2 mpg was doing 80-85 mph down the highway here in MT, I just love the result and have trouble keeping my foot off the pedal

Any muffler shop can fab a Y pipe. The gains are a system without that disgusting restriction. The downside is some loss of low end torque. But you will gain some MPG and mid and upper range torque. I have Banks headers on my V10 that gave me all and then some of the low end torque back. They use what they call torque tubes. They are headers with slightly smaller tubes. Regular headers have bigger tubes and you do loose low end torque especially with the Y pipe changed.
