Op not sure if you were looking at an '11 or '12 F-150 but I just notice Ford changed the headrest design for '12. Looks like they are the same "tilting" ones found on the '12 Superduty. If you buy an '11 you could probably just order a set from a '12 model. At first I wasn't sure if it was just a custom job but then I googled 1/2 dozen random 2012 F-150's and sure enough looks like they changed the design. Perhaps they listened to all the complaints from '09-'11 owners, props to Ford for listening to the customer. Hopefully they are cheap enough for us pre '12 owners to retro-fit.
I have a 2011 EB F150 and I HATE the headrests. For work, we are using 09-10 F150 XL trucks and even with the cheap vinyl work truck interiors, they still have the most awful headrest tilt ever. Every one of our trucks either had the headrest removed or turned around. I just don't understand the significant increase in forward tilt. My Superduty trucks and older F150s were WAY more comfortable and tolerable for all day driving.
As far as having the tilt for safety ? how safe is it when they are removed or turned around ? Not enough forward thinking here.

Just noticed the other day when I was walking through the home depot lot back to my truck. A 2009-10 F-150 almost like mine, except mine is an '11 anyway it was parked right next to me, even though the headrest looked like the same shape looks like Ford put a serious tilt forward on the '09-'10 trucks. If those are not adjustable I could also imagine that they would be very uncomfortable.
