Travis, sometimes I have my head in the sand, YES, that's a good idea. Tomorrow my brakes get a work out. My adrenaline is just fine, one of my better upgrades. I'm out in the middle of nowhere but will get the parts for a boost leak test later. I read that post of yours, good idea. William, should I have gotten the H2e or what are you thinking about for a turbo upgrade?

for guys that are towing frequently with smallish injectors like 160's would do nicely with an S362, but i'm not sure how well a set of 130's would spool that. probably spool it ok. i think the s362 would probably support around 400-450hp, but i don't know of anybody running them. Other than that the QSSB that WOP has seems to work great from what everybody says, but they are expensive. There are guys out there saying that their D66's pull awesome so lets see if we can get yours working properly before talking turbo swaps. LOL
William, i agree on the journal bearing stuff, BUT it's the garrett design IMO that kills us. Holset and borg warner turbos such as the H2E, HX50, S300's, S400's, etc all have journal bearings, but they are designed better IMO. ball bearing would be nice, but the only cheapish one out there small enough for 130cc-238cc injectors would be the GTP38R in which case you would have to swap to a super duty turbo setup.
I wasn't aware the h2e and the hx50 were also journal bearings.
I know Holset makes some good stuff though.
Garret is supposed too, but the ones in our trucks just seem destine to fail eventually, and would rather get away from the design.
I was thinking 160's and d66 originally.
Now I'm more than likely gonna have 160s2's with a bigger turbo.
Twin pumps in there someplace too. =)
I was thinking 160's with D66 also... now I'm thinking more and more about 160 II's and a H2E or HX50
I have a buddy kicking *** in investments right now who says he'll "sponsor" my truck when i move home. Depending on how much sponsoring he wants to do maybe I can swing Hybrids and a bigger turbo...
Travis, my boost numbers are the same before and after. I read that this is to be expected. Today I did some heavy braking and throttle. When the motor was only half warmed up my IPR duty cycle was about 38%, RPM's 2,700, HPOP 3,000, boost 25psi, and EGT's 1,200*. This was done in 2nd gear, if that matters, lol. Down the road with the motor warmed up I repeated the above but IPR duty cycle was 44% and HPOP would move between 2,700 to 3,000. All else the same as above. What do you think??

how fast is it jumping to 1200*? i honestly wouldn't think it would be able to get as hot as you were saying it was when u pulled your 5er. what was the hottest temps got when towing??
I'm talking to Tony about it and seeing his thoughts. everything sounds good to me. you have good ICP, your IPR DC% may be slightly high, but it's not too high. boost sounds good for your injectors(i'd still check for leaks and retorque the uppies), but the EGT's are getting up there. was that in your tow program? which tow program do you have, the heavy tow or just the tow??
ON EDIT: where are you located right now and where were you towing where you had to drop down to 1st? i'm assuming you've been on this same route before with the stock turbo?

When I get some time I'm going to retorque and check for leaks. I've got the six position from Tony and I was using the heavy tow mode today testing. I'm in NE right now and when I left AZ and was going into Flagstaff when I was forced down to 20mph in 1st because of high EGT's. And yes, I've been on the route a half of dozen times before with the 5er. All over the country, even when the trucks are down to 20-25mph I was always able to maintain 40 in 2nd. Slowest I've ever been is 38mph with the EGT gauge on 1250*. All of this 'good' towing was with Tony's tunes. Thanks again Travis for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!

do you have the normal tow tune or just the heavy tow? probably talk to him more tomorrow so gonna get him all this info for you so you can enjoy your time out there instead of worrying about talking with Tony about it right now. BTW, he said he will be more than happy to reburn it for you if you do decide you want to try it. I have had quite a few guys tell me though that you shouldn't need a reburn for that turbo swap. Ryan Bean said that guys usually don't even have very high EGT's with stage 2's and the D66 so i'm sure this isn't purely tuning...
Also, IIRC the heavy tow tune actually gives more fuel/power than the tow tune. it confuses me on Tony's website everytime, but i'm going to find out tomorrow if i can.
I have the stock, economy, light tow, heavy tow, extreme and high idle. Thanks again. Good night
Ok and so i'm assuming you tow in the normal tow tune, not the heavy tow? he doesn't have one thats specifically called light tow. if your towing in the #4(heavy tow) tune try towing in the other tow tune a little and see how it acts with the 5er whenever you hook back up. i will find out from Tony which one is fueling heavier as well. Once you get back and retorque the uppies and check for leaks(if you find no leaks) you may need to try a reburn next. At that point it's up to you what you decide to do, but i know Tony can get your tow tunes to cool down, it just might pull a little power out of the tune... we shall see tomorrow, if not Monday. Glad i can at least try to help Glenn.
