Nothin doing here 250,

You built a very long labor of love here. This engine is you. Anyone can have a toyota camary. It is about as exciting as plain oatmeal though.

This engine was a truck engine designed in the early 60s. Back then a pickups job was to haul a thousand pounds a few dozen miles around town or across the fields. This is the only purpose built light truck engine from Ford. It is that. It was coupled to a 3.89 rear end with a 3 or 4 speed direct drive tranny and used at a probable top speed of 65 mph.

If one wanted a utilitarian truck they bought a six. For getup and go they bought an eight. In the 60s there were more six cylinder pickups than V8s. I love your engien build and commend you on it. If you want to whip camarys I can get you a nice 351C in trade, windsor, or a 390. I use mine in a old fragged out F150. It runs at -35F and tows a 8000# load. 55mph is top speed. Why?, because its a truck not a racecar.

"Made in the 60's...It was coupled to a 3.89 rear end with a 3 or 4 speed direct drive tranny and"

so what were those trannies? I'm talkin 4 wh drives.

NP 435 (3 speed w/granny), C4, C6, others of the 60's?.
Next decade? T18,19 (again 4 speed 1 of which is 'granny',1 w/syncro).
90's - M5OD, others?
Wasn't the 'top loader' a car 4 speed of that era (40/50 yrs ago) that can B mated up (wimppy for 4WD?)

Really only interested in which manuals were (can B, w/o any adapters) used.

There are two M5OD's used in trucks tho. ;)
M5OD-R2 was designed by Mazda
M5OD-HD was designed by ZF.

I don't know who built what where, just know my ZF was built in the US.

Next time you get into a race like that, just use the power that the 300 gives you to win the race. Pull hard to the side as you both start off and just run over the car. The 300 will have enough pure raw power to get your truck up and over the hood of that little Camry, no matter what.

Race won.

Missed the 4 spdOD part. Thought it just said 4spd.

BTW to my knowledge the first gear in the M5OD-R2 used behind 300 + 302 engines has a first gear of 3.75. The 4.0 got a 3.91.

Cool. :)
Didn't know they were different but should've figured it, being Ford and all. ;)

T18 ========== 6.32 3.09 1.69 1.00 ===. r7.44
ZF M5OD-HD ==== 5.72 2.94 1.61 1.00 0.76 r5.72
Mazda M5OD-R2 =. 3.91 2.24 1.49 1.00 0.80 r3.39
NP435 ========. 6.69 3.34 1.74 1.00 ===. r8.26

Even at 3.75 it's still to low IMO and 2nd's 2.94 is way to high.
When crossing an intersection from a stop, my T18 kicks butt in 2nd. ;)
