I recently purchased a 01 2wd 4.6 extracab with 75K on it.
After about a week and a half it has started smoking on start up sometimes. I have researced a little and it sounds like its the valve seals?
My question, Is there anything to help the problem. Like different weight oil, maybe synthetic, any additive?
Any help would be great.

Only possible additive is one that expands seals.
Otherwise could be a leaky injector. Check by testing for pressure leakdown from the fuel rail after engine shut down. Pressure should hold some minutes, then if not could be the fuel pump check valve but 'that' won't cause smoking.
Another possibility is a leaking fuel regulator diaphram allowing gas thru the vacuum hose into the intake.
