03 expi 4.6l ????

Hello all. Have a 03 expi. I know I have a vaccum leak as he a/c diverts to the defrost under acceleration and back to normal while cruising. My question is, while checking vaccum lines under the hood, I found the below picture. It is under the engine cover on passenger side. To me, it looks like there is a spot for a line on the little nipple at the rear.
Am I correct? I did not find any loose lines anywhere either. Thanks for any help.

Put a vacuum cap on it and see if it makes a difference.

What good is that going to do if there's supposed to be vacuum present there?

It might cure a vacuum leak.

Take a look at his picture. It looks like a vacuum line is supposed to attach there in order to operate that valve shown. That being said, capping it off instead of attaching a live vacuum line isn't going to get it working.

I agree but if he can't find the proper line to connect to he should cap it until he does.

I can't even tell where or what is pictured from that closeup photo. Maybe, if no one else identifies it, take another pic but back up a bit so people get a better idea of where you are looking... and whats around it.

What I see in the picture is the heater control valve. There is no vacuum line loose or missing that I see.

Interesting...

I am facing similar problem also. AC blows out the dash vents, but once you hit about 32-34mph, it diverts to defrost. Then, after a while it might come back again, but then randomly go to defrost again. This goes on and on at random intervals.

Up until today everything was working fine. The only thing I have done is I changed the alternator yesterday and I'm now thinking that maybe (hopefully, actually...) I knocked a vacuum line loose somewhere while working in the engine bay.

I guess I'd better take off the engine cover tomorrow and see if I can find something...

The other interesting thing that happened also today is that cruise control stopped also working. The light on the dash comes on, but nothing happens when you press "set +" button.

I'm thinking this might be somehow connected also...

Considering that you sometimes get air out the vents, that would suggest that you have a vacuum leak and not a disconnected hose. The CC also uses vacuum, so yes the two problems are related. Check the vacuum hoses that run under the battery tray. This is a know source for vacuum loss due to battery corrosion leaking down.

I kind of expected this kind of answer. I guess I was just hoping it would be something easy as a disconnected hose, but maybe not...

Luckily for me, this time alloro's diagnosis was incorrect.

I had knocked the vacuum hose that can be seen in the picture OP posted in the second post loose. It's the one that is at the bottom left corner of the picture. The one that attached to the middle of the round thingy.

Cruise control problem was cured by attaching the cable to the throttle bracket. I managed to knock that one off, too, while wrestling with the alternator.

And I thought I made sure I buttoned everything up. That's what you get when you try to do stuff in a big hurry.

Anyway... Back to normal it is again.

Not by much. I did say it was a vacuum loss issue that was making the vents switch to defrost.

Yup.

I guess a disconnected hose definitely creates loss of vacuum. Loss of vacuum didn't have anything to do with the cruise issue, though.

Anyway... All's good now. Thanks for the tips.
