I have a 1977 F250 4WD with a Dana 60 rear and Dana 44 front. The brakes work, but might as well not be power. The amount of pressure I have to apply is ridiculous.
I have replaced the front brakes (disc) the rear brakes (drum) the master cylinder, and the vacuum booster. I have verified the seals on the vacuum booster as well as 21 to 23+ inches of mercury.
The only thing that hasn't been replaced is the proportioning valve, which I cannot find new.
Do any of you with a 1977 highboy have this issue? I have heard that these trucks are all built this way, but I would like to hear it from another owner.
I got a new prop block off of ebay. I wish I would have saved the box with the mfgr's name on it but I didn't. It was like $80. At least I can tell you that they are out there.
I don't have to force mine down too much. I did replace my Proportioning valve with an aftermarket one though when I redid my brake system. Whats nice about an aftermarket valve is you can adjust the pressure between front and rear brakes if need too.
