Hey fellas. I've been floating around soaking up all of the wisdom and otherwise in this good old Dent section. I'll say I might have things figured out now, after one Bowtie and one Ram, I've just purchased my third Ford 4x.
I stepped out and bought it online, from across the country - first time for that. I saw the truck and had to do it - sold my Harley to make it happen. It looks/is almost identical to the one I learned to drive in that my Grandpa owned.
I'm still waiting for it to get here, the shipping company is not as good as UPS Overnight. Thanks to the gentleman I bought it from for taking the picture and for the work he did on it. I've got big plans for it, mainly taking the advice of the 400 fans on here and adding to what's already been done in search for horses. Interior is brand new, so next job inside is to add the A/C. We'll see what else comes up when she gets home. I'm looking forward to teaching my kiddos how to drive a real pickup as soon as I can!

So Hello, looking forward to visiting with you all.
Welcome, I'm a newb around here also, but I gotta say that is a sweet truck. Its got just the right stance, makes me drool a little. Is it a 4spd or auto?
looks like you got yourself a nice truck right there! welcome to ! you said youve been lookin around, so you may have noticed that i am a very strong advocate of the "boat anchor."
I think I saw that truck on ebay. I bought mine sight unseen off ebay, something I said I would never do. I couldnt be more pleased, truck is exactly as represented, original paint, zero rust other than surface, all stock and runs like a top. By any chance are you using Express auto transport? Took me 2 months to get mine as it was off the major routes and they are just brokers dependent on an independent to take the job. I wont say they did me wrong but I think if I ever do it again I will just post the job on the internet boards myself and cut out the middle man, save $ on the deposit.

It's sitting right, I agree. Running C6 auto, and has cost me a bit of drool too!

Boat anchor? I don't know what you mean......But I did loose all of my guns in a boating accident. All of 'em. Sunk right down to the bottom! It was tragic...

I'm using M2Reeves, we'll see how it goes. Anyone able to direct me to a website where I could post it up? That sounds like a better idea, thanks.

I gave just over $5k for it. I was getting ready to restore an old Corn Binder (1980 IH Scout II) that's over at my buddy's shop. Got the bug while helping another buddy with his frame off restomod 1967 Scout 800. As I started planning, I saw I was going to be in it 10k deep in a hurry, so I started looking around for a 78/79 Bronco instead, and happened on to the F150 in the process. Since it is so similar to the one I grew up diving on the farm, same paint even, and figuring I couldn't build one as clean for said money, we through out a bid not expecting to win it. We really expected it to bring closer to $8k, maybe we're a little off here in red dirt country. But here I am, pacing the floor until it gets here.
So, not claiming to be an expert, I know first things I'll do when I do get it home will be to change all of my fluids, check seals and gaskets, tune-up, steering and brake check, u-joints and bushings. Then familiarize myself with it as fast as possible. It is rust free, cab mounts are good, so any paint and body work is going to be way down the list. It's got a mild cam and 2bbl Holley, as well as headers, duals dumped at the axle. I might look at swapping up to 4bbl cab and intake in the near future, and I'll check my timing at some point.
What do I need to pay attention to above and beyond all of that? Is there anything that I'm leaving out, or that might not be an obvious thing to look after with these pickups?
Thanks for the welcome, I'm sure I'll have plenty more to ask soon enough, and I will post all the pics when she gets home.
Welcome, great looking truck. I just sold my 69 F-100 on ebay, and the guy used United Road to ship it. Bad choice. It only took them about 2 and a half weeks to pick it up, but in the process they lost there driver and had to find another one to pick it up. They have the worst comunication between each other I've ever seen. No one knows whats going on. They came to pic it up Wednesday, and the guy hasn't got it yet, and they can't even tell him where it is or when he will get it. Anyway, again, welcome to the site and I would love to see more pics of your new truck when you get it home.
yes, "boat anchor." thanks to ford goin "de-tune crazy" in the late 70s, the 400 came from the factory with a measly 175 horses. until recently, there has been very little aftermarket support for it, and compared to other motors, the aftermarket is still tiny. and even still, people consider the 335 series to be fords eyesore of a dog. however, the 400 is, cubic inch for cubic inch, pound for pound, quite possibly the most potential motor ford ever produced. which is also why its won the jegs engine masters challenge the last two years in a row, and got second three years ago.

Yes sir, I'm familiar with the 400's injustice from the factory. I think we'll be in good shape with what been done to this one and what I can do to it with ease. Not looking for a strip truck or a crawler, just enough to pass Granny and wake her up a bit when she's hoggin' the left lane, or to pull some Billy out of the ditch!
