magnetic pickup in distributor

Would anyone know of a way to test the magnetic pickup in the distributor? Or is there even a way to test it ? I have a 1979 f250 4x4 with a 351m

Check the resistance between the orange and purple wires it should read between 400-700 ohms.

Should you need a new one, and I can't emphasize this enough, try to find one made in the US (Motorcraft, NAPA Echlin, etc.). The cheap ones don't seem to stand up and are affected by heat more easily.

Thanks guys, I'll be checking it out next weekend. If it needs to be replaced then Ford original is my first choice, of course. Thanks again
