Looks like I just need to cut that spacer off and then extend the frame out about an inch.
I'm planning to take the old frame pieces I have from my '87 and make it just tall enough to slip inside the 2wd frame at the front, then weld a seam where they meet. I'll make sure to leave space for the spacers inside where that bolt goes though.
Yep, a cut off wheel made that easy. I got the spacer off and got it mocked up on my truck today so I can start fabbing the frame pieces that will box it in.
Love this thread, thanks "MD" for all the info you've shared.
I hope you don't mind me bringing this thread back to life.
I plan on doing a swap also.
I have a 1994, 250 4x4 donor and will be using a 96 250, extended cab, short box, 2x4. I'll also be doing the "swap" out of the output-shaft from the tranny.
My question, or question's, if you can still recall,lol...how did things end up....
I didn't notice any "finished" pic's.
My other question is, I noticed on your first 'thread" page, a few pics have me wondering about the " front leaf spring" especially the "rear" bolt up.
You stated the hole was already there, so I presume you used it to line up the front spring to install your makeshift u brace.
But I did notice that " the rear " mount "hole' for the spring on the 4X4 donor truck was to the " left" of the body mount bolt, that holds the rubber bushing.
And the hole for the 2X4 is to the "right" of this mount bolt, body bushing.
If you used this hole, it seems you would have 'backed' the spring about an inch or so, of it's original placement.
Could you please comment on this or did everything line up ok.
Hope you understand what I'm referring to....
The front body mount that holds the cab, the bolt with a rubber bushing.
That's where the rear spring bracket bolts in between.
The 4x4 is to the left of this bolt,
The 2x4 is to the right of it, "the hole you used to bolt your spring bracket".
As you can see in both video's, it turned out just fine! The alignment shop had to put in some deep shims on the ball joints due to the RSK work. When it came to the mounting holes, on both models of the trucks I had, they were identical when it came to the rear mounts.
Chris, you couldn't find some place with a little more mud? your still in 2wd territory.
at least take her out on some wet grass.that's enough to slip up a 2wd dually and show off 4x4 lol.
looks like her hind end could use a 2" lift.

Ha ha ha.. Ahhhh.. At the time I was living in Arizona on the desert! No such luck with any mud nor water near where I was at!
Now, I am back up here in Wyoming, with tons of snow and mud, so when I get it back up here, it will be "well used"!
After I was all done putting it together, I noticed the rear end sat quite a bit lower.. Quite the unexpected surprise! I have new blocks made up for it, and waiting on the longer U-bolts to come in! More pics to come this spring!
Evan.. I am looking forward to seeing yours! Hurry! LOL
i'm planning on starting a 2 to 4wd conversion on a 92 F250, the back half has a dually axle under it, I have an 88 F350 Dana 60 dually axle, I am planning on using a Sky Manufacturing SRK, i was curious of if any of the bolt holes pre drilled in the frame from factory will work with this kit for both the front and the rear mounts as to save countless hours aligning and prefitting etc etc etc... Thanks Kevin

Here's a link to my 4x4 conversion I just did using the Sky RSK and a Dana 60.
You need to drill all the holes for the front RSK mount and there's only one hole already there for the rear for the spring bracket on the frame.
Kevin, the rear mounts line up with existing holes from the factory, IIRC.. I think I only had a couple holes to drill out in the rear. For the front, it lines up as well with the bottom of the long slot hole on a 2wd frame. The RSK will eliminate having to line up for that hole though.
With the RSK you need to make sure you get the measurment correct. It's 52" from eye to eye from the front RSK bracket to the rear spring bracket. I didn't like how it sat in the slot there so I moved mine back about an inch and a half and drilled all new holes for it.
On the rear only one hole lined up on each side, I had to drill the rest.
Ahhh yes.. Memories of all the painful drilling, breaking bits, dulling the rest.. Yep, I am surprised there is ever such a thing as a cracked frame, LOL!
