That's what I'm doing. I got a '94 Dana 60 front end for $350, and I put new ball joints, axle u-joints, bearings/seals in it. Cleaned it up good, painted it black, and put new gear oil in it.
Just waiting for my wife to let me spend money on the RSK, new spring u-bolts, and new spring bushings for the front...
The biggest hold up we have currently is in the tear down process we didnt order the RSK and now we have a front axle and tranny/transfer case sitting here, so we are not starting the swap til about 2 weeks out, about a week to got the parts so its a bummer.
Will the crossmember in the 2wd work for the swap? we are thinking about putting that in with our down time but are not sure if that will work, it looks identical. And that one is in nicer shape.
Your thread has a lot of great info I was looking to do this to my duallie. I was wondering if you could show us some pics of how you did the front shakle of the leaf spring after you mounted it. That's really the only part that I'm sceptical about.
Thanks for the help, Dustin
I can see if I can find some better pics too.. I used surplus steel from a shop that measured out 2" inside the box frame of the steel, cut one side off, drilled a large diameter hole through it to mount the shackle to, then welded and bolted it to the frame where the front mount would go. Worked out nicely!
Well we started the D60 swap last night, blocked the frame and pulled the tires, went home, came back to the shop this morning and did about an hour of work and the whole 2wd front end is ready to come out, minus the pitman arm, waiting on a puller.
The RSK is in the booth for paint and the axle is getting blasted to paint. things are going good thus far.
Thinking about redoing the body and paint while its in project mode.
Glad you hear you're making progress. I've got my RSK ordered and on the way (I paid the extra $35 for a powdercoated one). And getting my u-bolts and spring bushings from Riffraff soon.
were going to totally finish the front and then decide how much lift the rear needs, if its any more than 4 inches we will block it 4in and air bag it.
