I am planning to change my diff and tranny fluid at the 100K mark(I've done tranny a couple times) and have a Mag Hytech pan I picked up from a FTE'er and I wanted to make my 2008 cover match...so a little engine enamel and judicious taping and viola! A Mag Hytech knockoff! And the best part is I bought this cover for $23 and the paint for $4! I think it looks good!
I will get home and see what paint I used...I know it was a high temp engine enamel. I also had already washed and dried it several times. Previously I had hit it with a couple coats of some high temp clear coat. I didnt scotch brite it or anythig, but I bought it brand new from Ford, and it looked good.

That diff cover is only $23 from ford? I found them for like $50! Damn!!
I got it a couple years ago...yeah, Ford parts have shot up in price in a big way! Those that did the V/B code spring swap were getting springs from Ford for what much cheaper! It IS pretty shocking!
OK Sorry it took me so long to get back to this! I used Duplicolor Engine Enamel. Its a ceramic paint that is supposed to be good for up to 500 degrees(If my diff cover gets that hot then I'm in serious trouble!) HEre are the part numbers: Semi-gloss black DE1635. Before I used that, I used some duplicolor high performance wheel coating in clear coat formula so I could keep the original parts looking nice and shiny silver. Hope that helps!
Nice mod...looks like one of those $150 diff covers.
