Heres the situation. I use my 08 350 to haul a 4000# truck camper (slide on) and follow the heavy duty maintaince schedual. So its 6 monthes or 5000 miles for oil changes. I really dont use the vehical alot over the winter. I did a oil change last November. Im planning a 4000 mile trip in May, I'll have 2 weeks to go on the 6 monthes and did less than 1000 miles over the winter. Part of the reason for a 6 month interval is moisture build up in the oil. The truck was run for at least 50 miles each time when it was started over the winter. Can I get away with not changing, or is possible oil moisture a factor? Technically Im in the suggested oil change mark.
Another ? I used Delco oil, its the correct type, is it as good as Motorcraft ?

I have a 6.0 but am sometimes in the same situation as you. I change the oil. Alot cheaper than problems. Not saying you will have them but the cost difference is astronomical.
Not a big deal to go ahead and change the oil but my guess is that it's a pretty low risk that you will have problems.
What climate situations make moisture in the oil? I'm not sure how it happens but I do understand that it does. Seems to me that where you are and the winter-spring months would probably place you in the zone of areas that would not have much of an issue with this. Cooling and warming here in the south where the general humidity is much higher I can see.
We also tow and follow the heavy duty maint schedule. We do the maint as per the schedule and do it at a Ford dealer. Just did the 30 K maint. Truck has been flawless.
nycsteve, I wouldn't worry too much about moisture as long as the truck gets driven every so often.
When the engine gets up to temperature(195 degrees) the oil temps are within a few degrees of the coolant temps. At that temperature you're gonna evaporate moisture pretty quick.
It think other things can happen with oil over time once it's exposed to blowby and wear metals. I'm not sure exactly what, but I'd get it changed anyway. A few gallons of are a bit cheaper than repairing engine damage!

The thing you need to be concerned about on oils in this engine is whether they meet the CJ-4 spec. If the Delco does it should be fine. Now, having said that, not all oils are equal. I personally run an aircraft base oil in my 6.4.
