Removing rear view mirror, 2011 f250.
Does anybody know how to take it off? My local tint shop has a glass guy that does all there work and changes out windows at there shop also, he said he wont touch the mirror because he has broken one in the past. None of the local glass companys will even remove and replace if i pay them.
Maybe somebody here has some insight into getting it off since it doesnt have a screw, it looks pressed on.
For those who are going to mention the whole tinting the windsheild thing. Its getting 60% UV tint (blocks 97% of uv and uv heat). Not darkening tint. I enjoy being able to see at night.
Also for those who might be intrested its called wincos tint.

Interesting problem, have had many truck windshields replaced and never heard of a shop that wouldn't replace the mirror. Will keep tabs on your issue as I'm picking my 2011 up next month and have a long trip back from MD., 3000+ miles and may need a new windshield by the time it's over. We don't have the UV issue as severe up here in the Arctic as other places but that UV tinting sounds neat.

They will replace the mirror if they break it. What i ment was they refuse to do the windsheild because of the breaking the mirror issue. They just say goto somebody else, i know the big companys have money on the side for such things. The smaller local guys who work out there houses dont have big money to replace those kinda things. I would immagine that mirror could be upwards in the 700-800 range being its self dimming and all.

I'm up against the same thing. Had the windshield replaced due to a crack. When it came time to put the rear view mirror back, the metal button was glued to the windshield. The mirror will only slide part way down on the button. Seems there is a big fat spring that clips the rear view mirror to the button. So far no luck in getting the rear view to seat correctly on the button.
Thought about an after market replacement with a set screw. Fat chance finding anything bigger than 10 " here in David, Panama. The original is 11 1/2 " long.

After closer look at the assembly that slides / fits on to the button, I found a spring clip that holds the assembly to the button. Some guys on this forum & elsewhere talk about using a small blade common screw driver to lift up on the bottom of the assembly ( not the button ) while applying an upward pressure on the mirror assembly. It is supposed to slide off. I understand that it takes a few minutes to do this.
BTW, there is a Ford dealer here in David, but the mechanic I talked to was not too much help nor was he interested in putting my mirror back on. The glass shops here have no clue how to put the mirror on.

Removing and reinstalling the mirror is not that big of a deal. Breaking the windshield is more of a problem than breaking the mirror. To help avoid breaking the glass, keep it out of the sun, hot glass breaks much easier. I dont remember which mirror is on the new 2011, there are a couple of different mirror mounts. Either one should slide straight down the bracket fairly hard until it snaps onto the bracket. Dont try to remove the silver bracket that attaches directly to the glass of course.
The glass shops shouldnt be so afraid to work on it.
Dealerships will just call a local glass shop. Very few dealers have their own windshield tech.

ford has a special tool to remove it. i got mine off with a .028 feeler guage. you have to file about a 1/8" off the side of it because its to wide. then just slide it in the hole in the bottom of the mirror.wiggle the mirror side to side wile pushing up on it. should pop right off.you can get the feeler guage at sears or any auto parts store for about 6 bucks.
