Overdrive
I am new here , my wife has a 2005 F 150 4x4 239000 KM , rebuilt tranny. 4.6 liter.
A few weeks ago while exiting the highway from a speed of 100 KM to around 85 KM in Overdrive she went to speed up a little and it seemed that it could not get out of overdrive , bucking or surging. it happens on and off not all the time .
Brought it to a tranny shop, they test drove it and found nothing it did not do what we explained.
It has the 4.6 motor , lacks power by a mile. shop suggested Catylatic converters may be pluggeg . if the back pressure is restricted can it effect the way the tranny shifts
need help . don't know who to take it to what should we do next.

thanks
Al
There are two fairly easy DIY tests to check the general health of the cats- The first is temperature. Using a non contact pyrometer (aka infrared thermometer), check the temperature of the pipe before and after the cat immediately after a drive. The outlet should be about 100ºF hotter than the inlet. The second test is the sound- If you get a good burbly V8 rumble, chances are it's fine. If it sounds like it's hissing through a straw, then the cat is plugged.
