Well from what i could tell when i drove her home ( she doesnt have a tach) she was just a screamin down the road at like 55mph and it sounded somewhere like 3k rpm's. Thats just what i thought but maybe im wrong....I plan on getting a new timing chain set and a comp cam for it, so im not worried about power...and i just wanna be able to cruise 75mph with real low rpms like 1800-2400. Thanks!
If you have a 3.50:1 ratio now, and you are turning 3,000 Rpm at highway speed, and you think this is "screamin" then you have some issues.
First issue is that you would have to have a tire shorter than 25 inches to achieve this rpm at the speed you suggested.
With a regular sized truck tire like a 33", you would require a 4.56 gear or better to achieve this much rpm.
Pretty sure this is not the case.
Unless you have had your speedo calibrated, it will show you are going faster than you really are.... Burt's speedo, with the 16" tires (15" was factory on him) shows aprox. 7mph faster that we are really going. that said, I really don't think you are running 3,000rpm at 55. that would be crazy! Sorry I don't have specific answers for you. What about an aftermarket tach first before you tear into the drivetrain? That would be a lot cheaper and easier to do.
Good luck
Dak
yeah thats true, i planned on getting a 5" Sunpro tach for it, and it did feel like i was going faster than 55, i think we checked and it was doing 58 when i held it at "55"
