Wiper Blade Chatter

Hey,

My first posting and looking for suggestions for windshield wiper chatter.
I would usually replace the blades about every month before the chatter would start up again and then recently the chatter started soon after blade replacement. I installed new Anco blades and when the chatter started up I replaced the arms and even had the tension checked. I keep my glass clean but still continue to get a loud and irritating chatter when they swipe through the upper end of the windshield. I hate to put coatings on the glass but maybe that is the last resort or maybe there is a "miracle" blade that works great. Just looking for ideas.
Thank-you!

Make sure the wiper blades are sitting perpendicular to the
windshield. If they are sitting at an angle (other than 90
degrees), then they will chatter when swiping in one direction. You can adjust the angle they sit at by bending
the arm....good luck!!

Bob is correct. I usually use a "crescent" wrench or "adjustable end wrench" to grasp the flat portion of the arm and give it a "tweak".

Rain-X is a VERY good product that when applied properly will take you thru the absolute worst downpour, with semi's on every side, with your wipers turned off, and having perfect vision! It is absolutely amazing! WONDERFUL stuff!!!

In fact if you use the wipers it disturbs the coating and it does not last as long.

There are some newer products that are supposedly easier to apply but I have not tried them. -Yet!

Bob, it sounds like a good idea but can you clear me up a bit on what you mean with the angles and the position of the blade/arm.

Thanks

Hi Valleyflyer,
If you send me your e-mail address (rlayers@us.ibm.com),
I'll do a diagram and e-mail it to you...

I've heard the wax from the drive-thru car washes can cause wiper chatter.

Try rain-x (don't forget the side windows). I've been using since the early eighties and it is a product that works as advertised(if not better).

Tim

PS- Rain-x also has entertainment value as you don't often get to see water run uphill.
