Windshield Wipers!

I have a problem with the windshield wipers on my truck, they chatter across the windshield when it is raining i have replace the wiper blades that were on there when i bought the truck last November (it is a 2006 crew fx4 w/30000 miles) to the neoform wiper blades after reading many posts about them on here! it still does with them, i have taken my truck to the dealer (as it is still under the 3/36000) and they said all they can recommend is to change the blades again, i don't want to spend the money on some more blades if they are not the problem (and i can not find the receipt from napa, or have the origional packaging), i was wondering if anyone on here has had similar problems and what they did to remedy it, and or any suggestions on how to remedy the problem? it is driving me nuts, my old 7700 never had this problem. Oh and also while i am on here i have noticed my hood seems to move quite a bit when i am driving is this normal too, it is like it is flexing, i have noticed it more since the dealer replaced the valance that goes over the windsheild motor will this have anything to do with this? the valance they installed does seem to look a little different than the one that was on there, maybe it just me though! (the wipers have done this since the start and have nothing to do with the valance replacement!) Thank you all as always, i really don't know what i would do without this site!
Greatest appreciation!
Rik

I have had 4 sets of blades on my '05. cheap ones..... and the $$ Bosch etc ones. they all chatter like yours. I hate it. however, I have a bug deflector on mine. My bud's truck with no bugger and $2 blades, does not do it. your hood should not wiggle though.

i have a bug deflector too, maybe that is where the problem lies, i presume it is a real ford bug deflector it is a brownish color and has F-150 written on it?

Probably not the bug deflector unless the wipers only chatter when moving vs. standing still. Sounds like you've got a tension problem caused perhaps by the arms being too far (a matter of mm really) from the windshield.

Get some Rain X you will hardly need to use the wipers, have used it for 8 years would not drive without it great for night driving in the rain no film as you hardly need wipers as long as your going over 30 mph great on hi way.
apply once a month and your good to go.
I have bug shield no chatter.
This wont fix your problem but will help if you cant stop the chatter.

In high wind conditions I have seen my Aluminum hood flex quite a bit. I drive back and forth to Vegas from San Diego and when I am bucking headwinds the hood will dance a lot, the latch is tight, it is just the aluminum doing what it is supposed too.

I don't know much about the wiper issue. I have to change mine about every three months (acid rain in East Tennessee). X 2 on the rain-X, been using it for 20 years. As far as the hood flutter, check out this thread, it worked for me.

its funny you mentioned rain x, i use it too, i was wondering today if that could maybe the cause, but i guess not, i use the pre mixed windshield/bug remover stuff and it works great i know what you mean about not really needing to use the wipers! how do i adjust the tension as mentioned? or do i have to get the stealership to order me some new wiper arms? i am under 3/36000 until june so time is of the essence! it is not the bug shield as this morning i sat there with the truck still parked and it would chatter, lucky northeast florida is haviing a monsoon right now so i can try and eliminate things!
thank you all again!

There is a spring inside the wiper arms. It can be attached to one hole or another to change the tention. I would try to move it up to the next notch to increase the tention. I know you are still under warranty, but they would probably tell you that the wiper arms are normal wear anyway.

I've used Bon Amy to clean my windslield too. Hard to rinse off though. But it will get it clean.

Keep us up to date.

what size wipers are you running?

a 22" will fit just fine, and a 24" can just barely squeak under there

but the tech manual calls for a 20" blade
if you are running anything larger than that 20" blade, it makes the skipping problem worse.

the 20" seems optimal to prevent the skipping.

I ran 22" and 23" blades on my F-150. I only experienced chatter when the windshield was dry. Otherwise, it was nice and smooth when a little bit of water was getting wiped off.

btw, I've tried those expensive Bosch and Michellin wipers...what a waste of money. The Bosch wouldn't keep contact with the windshield, and the Michellin ones just bent over on themselves.
I probably wasted $40 total between the 2 sets...I'll never touch 'em again. utterly worthless
I ran/run the Walmart special $3.00 cheapie on the passenger side, and the Rain-X ($6.00) on the Drivers side.

also, I change wiper blades out about at least every 1-2 months. I've got an OCD problem, and the second the wipers start leaving streaks, they're gone. The more expensive wipers work...but they just aren't economical, especially when you can get several sets of cheaper wipers that will last almost as long, and do just as good a job

I've had great results from the Bosch Icons. I know they are expensive but they work. I second the idea of tightining your tension spring also, with more pressure and a good set of blades i think your problem will dissapear.

Mine is an 05 and it does it from time to time. I dont have a rain x on it or a bug shield. I have Micheline blades. I dont know what it might be but yes it does drive you crazy when you just got new ones.
