A 572 Ford engine is pretty simple if youve got an aftermarket (A460, Eliminator or a CC aluminum) block.
4.600" bore with a 4.3" stroke crank
or
4.500" bore with a 4.5" stroke crank. - actually possible with some stock blocks.
No real reason 572ci cant live in a stock 2 bolt block. Rob had damn near 1000hp in his stock 2 bolt block with a girdle for years and if Im not mistaken Frank Merkl has a big 500" motor (572 actually sounds right) making a rediculous amount of horsepower (1400hp if memory serves) on a stock 4 bolt main block.
sure would lighten the stress level a little by having an aftermarket block though.

Alpha you talk about these huge stroked motors which may have way more power than you could ever need but is it really realistic to run something that big without spending huge $ at the gas pump. I know with my 390 it had real good power with lots of work done like aluminum intake,.030 over forged pistons, headers, and so on just scrathing the surface of it but I really wanted a 428 for my truck from the beggining and thats now what I'm putting in. I wouldnt want any more than that under the hood with a 770 holley truck avenger it will definetely be even more on fuel than the 390 but it will still be realistically streetable, and able to drive to the trails and have more than enough hp and torque!!
I'd definetely prefer to say I got a 428 under the hood over a 460 any day of the week but thats just me...
fe's are the chit, but more expensive to build than a 385 series. and swaps aren't as common or easy as a 385. and factory hi-po parts are few and far between for an fe, so you will spend way more in general. i wouldn't mind having a 410fe in an offroad truck. it all comes down to how much you want to spend and what you do with your truck, and how much do you just wanna go overkill just because you can. i've seen 500+ci fe's too, they are just really expensive and have more of a muscle car following. other than a 462mel the 460 is fords biggest factory motor with a huge aftermarket following. guys with big trucks like big motors, and the same goes for both. bigger is better. and it's easier to go big with a 460. at the end of the day, unless you strictly bog, 3-500hp will suit you just fine with the proper gears
agreed. i don't know where i stand as of yet on some deals i'm working on, but karl, i may want your input on a few decisions in the near future. i'll take advice from you, but will not purchase anything from you like paul did:flipoff: but seriously, i might have some questions
Back to my truck...... here is the latest upgrade.
I'm not 100% complete yet. Got all the new high pressure injectors in, charger is bolted in and hooked up. All I have left is running the oil lines, run the belt, and get it tuned.
The truck it was on before was dyno'd at 425 to the wheels. It was a stock 5.4 4x4 . So I figure I'll be right around there if not a little more.
Sooooo... now can I drive it? :P
Well, when you finish it...
What did that thing cost ya anyways?
I got it for a steal. The chargers alone go for $3000 or so. I got the Charger, all the pulleys belts, etc..., HP injectors, oil lines, new harmonic, and a fuel pump for $1500.
Yeah but its still just a stupid Florida truck right[/IMG]
not until you add 3 feet more lift and 72'' skinny tractor tires. right now it is still a cool truck, but i assume it will go the way of the floriduh ghey :flipoff:
