None have taken me up on the idea --- even though it should not be that hard to work backward to see who the real OEM is for the sensor, and buy it in quantity from a wholesaler rather than from Ford. Most of the Navistar sensors and parts are common industrial devices.

Yes, some sensors, like the Air Mass sensor, virtually never break.

EBP adjusted, blinker fluid topped, left-handed smoke shifter on order! EGR, ECM modules replaced 18mos/20k ago. Turbo replaced 22mos/23k ago. EBP replaced last summer/4k ago (truck sat on the lot 5 months). Local dealer worked on it.

Took the truck out today after driving in tow/haul mode yesterday without problems. "Drove it like I stole it" and then tried to get get it to act up as before and no luck. With trailer and without, tow mode or not, it drove wonderfully. More tomorrow in hopes of taking it to a diesel mechanic with some detail to narrow the diagnosis.

No smoke that I noticed when it was acting up, so injector or turbo, huh?

Awesome forum.

smoke olny helps at the guessing game. very hard to tell wich way, injectors can do some strange stuff so can turbos.
do happen to know if its an early or late built engine?
late build would have an icp sensor on passanger side valve cover.
the lot rot this truck has seen has me leaning to stuck/sticking turbo.
if its an 04 w/03 engine then im back to possible icp sensor and connector concerns. or both

Is it an early or late 2004 (ie ICP question asked earlier)? The cut off date is late Sept 2003 production.

Looks like I was slow to the draw at the keyboard cheezit .........

I think we have a winner. suspect icp sensor and connector for the random acts and issues.

No problems for 8-10 days. What are the chances that I had bad fuel from the "lot Rot"? Oil change coming up and I think I should change fuel filters for piece of mind. Any thoughts? I don't want to spend frivolously.
