Are you talking about the lockout inside the hub? If so it has an inner and outter snapring an them. After you get those out thread a couple of the cap bolts back in to use to pull the lockout out of the hub.

you need to use a hub socket for your particular front axle.
it's a large socket with prongs on it to remove the nut inside.
and of course like kenpobuck states there are snaps rings too.
you can find the tool for rent or purchase at many local auto parts stores.
