which I am guessing that if you are facing the engine compartment you wack the wrench on the fan nut counterclockwise to your left?
Yes to the left. There are drain plugs on each side of the engine for coolant. I have not done a water pump on one of these to say how much you would loose.
Since I am just getting started on this job today a question...
Ford owners guide says the capacity of coolant in the 7.3 system is 32 quarts.
Draining the plug at the bottom of the radiator, I got about 2 gallons. Is the other 6 remaining in the block/heater core and is it going to come pouring out all over my garage floor when I remove the water pump? If I need to drain more of the coolant out of the system, where do I drain the rest from? Am stuck till I figure this out. Don't want it on my garage floor as I have stupid dogs that will think this is some new thing that they will have to try out.
I drained and remove the radiator and lost very little when I removed the pump
Hi Steve,
I don't have a part number for that piece. I purchased a new waterpump from Napa. It was the Napa brand and that elbow tube was included in the box. The only part I had a problem with was the housing over the thermostat which was fairly corroded. I cleaned it up and put it back on. No leaks so I was happy. May have to end up replacing that over the next year or so.
My next project is replacing the blue rubber tubes on the turbo. They are leaking oil some and making a mess of the engine.
