Bill Hewitt of Powerstrokehelp.com has a good video on replacing a water pump. Number one no no is removing the belt before removing the fan. And, the fan and the shroud have to come out together. He uses an air chisel to loosen the nut, and makes quick work of it. Probably not the best idea for a novice.
I know this probably doesn't help now, but auto parts stores rent a tool for really cheap that has a wrench made out of plate steel which makes the job 100x's easier. Just put the wrench on the nut, and the other plate slides onto the hub mounting bolts and you can hand loosen it.

That sure sounds like the best way for the average guy to go. No real investment.
yep bought a similar tool for 25 bucks, no one rents that stuff around here that i could find.... ive got the water pump on, im wondering how much tq is needed for coolant sensor. ill try 18 first
Advance Auto loans out tools...you give them the full value of the tool, then bring it back when you're done....almost like Wal-Fart's revolving door plan, for poor people like me...i buy something...use the crap out of it, then take it back on the 29th day...lol...i'm jk, i would never do that...lol
ok guys, here are what i have so far you NEED these 2 tools to do the job. its so easy with em. 1 7/8s wrench (huge) and the other fan removal tool. worth it.
my set up when posting earlier... on FTE on there
peeling out old gasket
CPS removal
new cps( i cleaned up that area a bunch later)
prepping front of water pump for new gasket
all cleaned up
water pump on
the gasket that started this whole thing (this is the replacement part)
another new gasket.
and this is where i am at now. picking up a few more parts tomorrow, and going to be driving by the afternoon (hopefully)

It's really not as cold as you think, where he lives. I grew up in Vancouver near where he lives and I also lived in Decatur Al, next door to you in Huntsville. And it may come as a surprise to you, but the winters are colder at night where you are, than in Burnaby BC. Just a little geog. lesson, just for ****s and giggles.
