Keep the OBS. A lot cheaper to upgrade the seats and stuff if your '97 than start payments on a SD.
Plus low miles on your '97, and you aren't gaining much with the 6 speed manual in the SD. You'd have a low granny gear, but the overdrive gear isn't much different.
Thanks guys. The OBS is staying and I am quite happy about that. I was so torn, I was figuring out how to keep both. But like y'all are saying, just adding some of the SD parts will be the path forward. I am pretty focused on the utility aspects of the truck. It has got to be a good workhorse and then provide the creature comforts. Not the other way around.
For a gear upgrade (ie - US Gear, etc) how much do those things run? I would love to have one more gear. So many times, I pull from fifth looking for sixth...
I have the split seats (in blue-gray fabric). Not a bench, but they are fairly comfortable with the flip down middle piece. I see the captain's seats and I would like to have those at some point. Where's the best place to hunt for those?
Need the SD I/C and pipe kit, too. Have a SD van turbo sitting on the coffee table waiting for a rebuild kit and the other parts to add it in (Clay and I will work this part out, I am sure.)
I will post another thread on the topic, but someone is offering me a TS 6-pos for $175. It's off a 02, so it'll need a reprogram ($50). Is $225 worth it? I know I need injectors to make it all work right, but I was just looking for an interim electronic upgrade (currently run a Superchips tuner). No need to crank out black smoke, but towing power and economy are the goals. I know I could but a TW or something else for $400+, but I was just trying to save a little dough.
And how do you get to the ECU to plug this in? Under the dash or under the hood?
