So I'm still learning about my truck. 1995 SuperDuty (F450?) Been doing lots of reading thru old posts and it seems like there are things ya'll have done, or would like to do, to your trucks that are already done on mine. So far I've noticed the biggest difference in the braking system. Mine is already equipped with a HydroBoost & 4 wheel disc. Just wondering what else might be different between the SD & OBS? Also am I correct in calling mine a SD & f350s & smaller OBSs?
My bro has a 97 SD which is the equivalent to an f450 or bigger. His is a 2wd dually, it has a bigger rear end with a larger gear ratio, stiffer springs. It also appears to have a different turbo, maybe someone can verify that (his y pipe is slightly different than mine). The drive train should still be the same thing that's in the OBS's.
Nto sure on most of the differences, but the F-superduty trucks are still OBS, since they sport the 'Old Body Style'. I imagine they would be equipped with the Dana 80 diff and larger brakes and heavier springs, but I don't actually know.
Yep, it has the Dana 80 with 5.13 gearing. (gonna change to 4.10 soon as I can afford it) 15,000GVW. Was wondering more along the lines of the HPOP & Turbo
& other engine & performance related differences. If any.
Your '95 F-Superduty has the same engine as the other OBS 7.3 Powerstrokes. It came with hydroboost stock, the frame is narrower in the rear as is the axle (2" narrower than a regular SRW axle). Rear springs are narrower (should be 2.5" wide instead of 3"). Should be 10 lug wheels, 19.5" most likely.
I have a 97 and the proper name is F-Superduty, a pic is in the stack thread down a few posts. In todays world they would be a 450. I realy like to go into the parts stores and have the experts tell me there is no such thing and correct them, LOL. They are one heck of a lot more truck than a F-350 in both load carrying and stopping ability my sticker GVW is 16,000 LBs. I REALY like the bakes on mine, they are huge and the same front and rear. Only available rear gears was 5.13 and 4.63. I am in the process of installing a NOS US Gear overdrive in mne (4.63 equipped) To give you an idea how much heavier they are mine weighs in at over 10,000 empty with a lightweight 9' flatbed installed. Not sure what the available options were for tires, we had 4 of them at work and all of them plus the one I now own were on 16" tires, no 19.5s back then. We were told way back when that the F-Supers had a bit differant tuning than the other 7.3 DIT engines. Mine is bone stock other than filter and exhaust mods and the boost figures I read here lead me to believe they are differant. My truck will easily build in excess of 20 lbs boost and exceed 1250 EGT and throws a haze(not a cloud) of black smoke at WOT.
Thanks all. I haven't towed anything with it yet but have had some good loads in the bed. 12' slid in camper, heaping bed full of oak. Truck doesn't notice. Rides a little smoother but still goes and stops and corners like an empty truck. I think I'm really going to like this thing.
Oh yeah, the wheels on mine are 10 lug 16".
